My advice is to read a lot of tutorials, even from a different style. Keeping shapes smooth, like, using just the amount of anchor points needed, so you can keep it clean and easy to edit.

Another tip, is when choosing colors, start with the darkest color, keep increasing brightness along with little changes on the hue, depending on the accuracy of the color selection if you don't do this, it may end looking 'flat' even with a huge amount of layers.

Just to give a better idea, it's like starting with a dark red and ending with a light red, you can start with a dark red and end with something more orange for example.

Oh yeah, sorry, nearly forgot. About the airbrushing, no, I don't use it, my work is based purely on vector.

If I did use it, the gallery directors would be jumping on my jugular
