My first isn't the best example to use, but... The celtic knot on my ankle was done entirely with the smallest needle they cold use, because it's so small and detailed. And the artist told me it was going to hurt like crazy, because the smaller needle has to pierce the skin more times to get the colour in place. Then he went on about how women always handle the pain better than men. I spent the first few minutes gritting my teeth, and the rest of the time sitting forward and watching him work. It wasn't anywhere near as painful as I'd expected it to be.

Not really - the tattooing needle pierces your skin over and over and over, and much more shallowly than getting a shot. Also, you get endorphins going so...

In my experience, piercings hurt more in the long run (take longer to heal, etc.).

No worries. Tats are essentially permanent changes to your body, so I think it's a good idea to get all the information you can get beforehand.

We do, yes, two of them. She has the right eye of Horus (the eye of Ra) to match my left eye of Horus (the eye of Thoth), and we both have the same Mother's Knot tat.
