Well, we didn't realize that it has been solicited yet or something like that and had to take it down for the time being.

Once it gets out there officially, it will be back up.

Sorry about that.

OMG! you're a GENIUS! Why don't you join the art contest from [link] ? Free to enter, 10 000 USD prize. You MUST win it!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Roboworks In reply to lauraholden [2007-08-28 16:27:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm no genius, that's for sure. But I'm working on my genius badge.

I don't enter that kind of stuff or gallery's or anything like that because I never win. I get my hopes up and do something that I think is a sure thing and then nothing happens. I'm a worker bee. I work and earn my reward.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Wish I could convince Mark Irwin to give me a shot at some of those sketch cards.

Your doing a fine job. I like the sepia tone look, much different than most other sketch cards.

Roboworks In reply to NORVANDELL [2007-08-28 02:37:08 +0000 UTC]

Have you talked to him? He's a great guy and knows what's best for what project. Sometimes I really want to work on something he's doing but I don't get that call. It's because I'm not right for whatever reason. He knows what he's doing and I trust him. You just keep working on it. Cully Hamner gave me some advice once that I took to heart and I'm trying to live up to that daily. Take anything you can get and do it the best you can but most importantly, do it ON TIME!!! Then do another one. Eventually people will see that your someone that can trust to get the job done.

Good luck buddy!

NORVANDELL In reply to Roboworks [2007-08-28 04:31:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I have spoken with Mark, and through DA. Sent him my link to keep on hand. Funny you mention Cully, I've known him and the Gaijin guys since 88', back when Jose' Phillips and Tony Harris were with them.

I know your busy, but anychance, for shits and giggles, you wanna look at the Green Lantern I inked. looking to find someone to color it in their spare time.

Roboworks In reply to NORVANDELL [2007-08-28 16:29:45 +0000 UTC]

That stuff is KILLER! Are you drawing that as well or just inking? Nice work. I couldn't possibly color another thing at the moment. I'm still working on the pieces sent to me earlier and I have some covers and pages for Marvel I have to do. But hell, man. It's a small industry and with work like yours, we're bound to hook up at some point. Keep killing it bro. Your doing awesome!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NORVANDELL In reply to Roboworks [2007-08-28 19:13:21 +0000 UTC]

Most all the inked pieces are penciled by other people. I mainly want to be an inker, which I have acheived a small amount of success in the indie field, but I want to take the next step and work for Marvel or DC, which is why I am bugging Mark Irwin about those sketch cards.

The other stuff on my page is things I like to do on the side, like pin-ups and painted works. I started using Sharpie markers to color because it was cheap. What I need now, is about 3 pages of pencils for both the big 2, so I can put together a mighty portfolio to send off.

I'm finishing a Jack Kirby page, and a contest piece for the chance at winning a sub here. So, stop by or add me to your friends list, and I'll keep posting as much as I can. And yes, one day we could do something together, THAT would be killer.

Thanks for your comments, they mean alot.

Tod

Roboworks In reply to NORVANDELL [2007-08-29 16:35:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, the sketchcards aren't going to be inked by other folks. That's kind of the whole idea. Just quick sketches by the artist. Well, that's what they're supposed to be. People have been dropping masterpieces.

Yeah, man. You inking's good, dude! Do a crap load of pages and bring them to cons and get business cards and call them until they give you something. Take anything and everything they give you.

I started as an inker way, WAY long ago. I inked and
when we all sucked. But look at us now! We suck a little less!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NORVANDELL In reply to Roboworks [2007-08-30 02:40:42 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think the cards would be inked. I wish I knew about when the call went out and what type of artists Mark was looking for. I've seen the cards that Travis Charest has done, and thats how I would do mine.

I'm trying to put together a good portfolio, and I plan on hitting up most of the editors of the big 2 plus Image. AT this point, I'm not picky about what I would ink. I really wouldn't mind the Marvel Adventure style books, because the art seems to have a more clean line, minimalistic style that I excel at.

If you know of any site that offer high rez images of pencil art, let me know. I'm tired of 72dpi thumbnail crap that I see too often. You can't enlarge those and expect to get any detail to come through.
