FreezingIceKirby In reply to ??? [2013-02-26 03:16:29 +0000 UTC]

Alright, two things...

#1 - I finally managed to catch a James Bond movie the other day. After about five minutes, I started to get the impression that these films are known for how absurd Bond and his gadgets/methods become. Surfboarding to get into North Korea, using some satellite knife device, and an early battle-to-the-death on hover crafts. Weird stuff... but I actually kind of liked it, strangely. It was an interesting little film, to say the least. If I can come across any more, I think I'll check them out (though I often pass right by them, since I never know they're Bond films, going by the title alone... )

#2 - My dad has some new cable provider, which gives him access to DVR. When last I was over at his place, I happened to come across a movie that I remember you having... some scorn for, to put it mildly. Well, I set the DVR to record it, and I'm going to brave the film, for the both of us. What's the movie? Why, "Hop", of course! I'll be sure to let you know how this *OBVIOUSLY* great film turns out. lol

(...Why am I so attracted to bad movies? I wasn't going to watch "Escape From Planet Earth", until you said it was bad... Now I'm just too curious to pass it up! It's going to be Yogi Bear all over again. )

SSProjects In reply to FreezingIceKirby [2013-02-26 06:24:25 +0000 UTC]

1. Yep, you got it! Bond is all about beauties and gadgets, in that order. Of course, display and employ of such gadgets actually varies from film to film (for instance, there's not so much of that in entries like "Dr. No", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", or "Casino Royale", since those were opportunities for Bond to show his general resourcefulness). Given your description, it seems like you chose "Die Another Day"--not a first film I would have chosen, but at least it was a Brosnan, and Halle Berry was one of the more intriguing Bond gals.

2. I look forward to your review of "Hop"--I was just looking at one of the cooler commercials for it, with E.B. playing Blur's "Song 2" on the drums...and thought, what a shame it doesn't seem to be worth much. But, perhaps it's not as awful as it seems. But then, there's Marsden carrying all those Easter Baskets...

(As I say, "bad" is a little strong for "Escape From Planet Earth"...it was just a little south of mediocre. It seemed to me that it could have been so much more. Hey, you might actually enjoy it a lot more than I did. Of course, I'll look forward to that review as well! )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FreezingIceKirby In reply to SSProjects [2013-02-27 20:28:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, Die Another Day just happened to be on, and I had nothing better to do at the time... So I just decided to go for it. I'm kinda glad I did watch it though.

----
So yeah, I went through with it... I actually watched Hop. I'm debating about reviewing it, because honestly... I'd like to forget everything I watched last night. So yeah, let's just say that both of our suspicions were pretty much on the money. It's a bad film, through and through.

And hey, I also watched "Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs. Evil". I'm also regretting that decision, too. -lol-

And while I'm at it, I also almost watched that new Green Lantern film. But by then, I had already watched Hoodwinked Too and Hop, so I was like "Nahh, too many bad movies for one day".

I don't remember if it was you or not, but someone warned me about Adam Sandler's "Eight Crazy Nights".

...Well, I'm watching it right now, cause it just so happens to be on TV! I thought "Hey, why not?"

...This film blows, and I'm only five minutes in. I don't think I can make it to the end of this...

SSProjects In reply to FreezingIceKirby [2012-12-21 22:34:23 +0000 UTC]

My condolences.

I'm reasonably certain that you got at least two admonishments from me about that...what shall we call it? It seems insulting and wrong to call it a movie. What's worse is that the animation quality is rather good, so it's puzzling that such talent was used on something so vapid.

If it's any consolation, I'm, watching something ghastly myself; yet another Syfy original movie about "Doomsday Prophecy" (yes, that's actually the title), in honor of what was supposed to happen today. (Guess I'll have to finish those "Sneeks" after all.) I likely won't watch much longer either. :/

FreezingIceKirby In reply to SSProjects [2012-12-21 23:47:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, I did manage to make it to the end... I don't know how, but I did. And let me tell you, it didn't get any easier as it went along. I don't have to say what's wrong with the film, as you probably know from personal experience... I'll just say that I hope Adam Sandler never directs, produces, and/or writes for something EVER AGAIN. Wow, was that "film" a monstrosity... and you're right, it does feel insulting to even call it that.

(But you are right, it did have some nice animation. I was actually kinda thrown back by it... it was unexpected.)

yet another Syfy original

And that's all I need to hear. Trust me, I've seen my fair share of their so-called "Original" movies... and there's not a single one I liked or even slightly enjoyed (Unless you consider "Tin Man" an original... it was pretty cool, though even it had many problems).

Good luck, man... You'll need it.

SSProjects In reply to FreezingIceKirby [2012-12-22 01:23:54 +0000 UTC]

I actually stayed with it--if nothing else, to accurately report to others how horrible it was. It starred AJ Buckley of "CSI: New York" (who's done a host of these, it seems) and the actress who played the physician in "Stargate: Atlantis"--her name escapes me right now--and they were the absolute best things about this toilet. "War Of The Worlds" and even "2012" seem plausible compared to this. Get this--if a "dark star" arrives to swallow the earth, it will be saved by--a squad of seven Moai in the Pacific Northwest, firing a laser beam. Yep, not only did they rip from "Stargate" and "The Fifth Element" at the same time, but they tried to mine a serious story out of it. All hail Syfy.

....Well, duh! Come on, man, even I figured that out, before you even posted it. Though to tell you the truth, I always keep seven miniature Moai heads with me at all times, just in case I run into a dark star at my local Walmart (my family calls me insane... I say it's smart thinkin'!)

But, getting serious... Good writing and storyline has never mixed well with any Syfy film that I can remember. Honestly, you'd think they'd hire someone to put a bit more effort into something like this, so they could lift their heads up proudly when saying "THIS is what we're known for"... instead, they give us... stuff like 'that'... whatever you can constitute 'that' as being.

I suppose we'll have to wait for this movie to see just how intimidating Jackman's bunny actually is...

*Remembers the "I'm a bunny" line*

Yeah... I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to that question. He'll probably be just as threatening as Ty The Tasmanian Tiger (who also uses boomerangs)... but hey, maybe the film will surprise us... maybe.

(If he had said "I'm a rabbit", perhaps I could've taken him seriously... but not "bunny".)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FreezingIceKirby In reply to SSProjects [2012-11-03 03:49:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Ty pretty much embodies that. I expect similar results from Mr. "I'm a bunny".

...Okay, I'll admit, I do like Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (a little, anyway), enough that I would like to see a TTTT4 (which will never happen)... but when you make a TV commercial, and you try to tackle on big names like Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, AND Sonic The Hedgehog... you're just asking for trouble (and ridicule... and embarrassment, considering people weren't really impressed with his low-budget game... myself included, despite still finding it run regardless). You gotta admire their confidence in the character... but perhaps they had a bit too much.
