First use the usual :thumbXXXXXXX: code with a deviation of your choice in a journal entry. Click preview journal entry. Right click the thumbnail, copy the image link address. The way you find the image address might work a bit differently depending on what browser you use.

Then use this code:

I saw a journal with css a few days ago that made the sidebar look like:

Folder
-subfolder
-subfolder
-subfolder

etc. Anyone know where to find this?! (I can't find the deviant again!)

I have a little question. Does anyone know how to put a center code into title and topic of chatrooms, like on this screen [link] ? I've tried using the normal center code, but it sadly didn't work D:

Uhm... Can you edit the CSS? I've never seen a chatroom before so I don't know anything at all, but if you can edit the CSS then I think I will be able to help you

Hello!

I had a quick question. Does anyone know how to add a custom font you made yourself into a journal CSS? I'd like the title of my journals to be in the custom font I made. Any help would be appreciated

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Drake1 In reply to Little-Rin-Chan [2012-09-14 01:17:01 +0000 UTC]

Uhm... If you want everybody to be able to see the custom font you made, they all must have it installed, so imagine the headache that would give you! The best solution I can give you is: go to Google Fonts and look for a similar one
Then, on your CSS just put the name of that font, and, since DA has Google Fonts integrated, it should appear automatically.
Bye!

I hope you could understand me, my english is not that good

Hello there!

I was wondering if someone could make a Skyrim journal skin since there are pretty much none. Like, with the symbol of the Dragonborn and Alduin and whatnot. Not sure about the cursor but it should be something awesome... And black... I may be able to pay with points if needed.

gillianivyart In reply to ShadowRyghas [2012-09-14 10:50:12 +0000 UTC]

That would be awesome. My friend =Blissful-Creations is always playing Skyrim and she might be open to the suggestion to make a skin for it. ;D

ShadowRyghas In reply to gillianivyart [2012-09-14 23:44:34 +0000 UTC]

Like, I don't think it should have any particular race on it or anything. Like I said, with Alduin and the Symbol of the Dragonborn n' stuff. Yeah. X3 Maybe have the journal body be part of the map of skyrim or a really epic view from Skyrim because they blew me away with the scenery personally. And the skies are BEAUTIFUL! Cursor would probably be the PC-version's cursor. Juuust an idea. I'd do it, but I don't have enough skills to make a respectable Skyrim Skin.

CSS wizards, I have a couple of questions;
The new subfolder feature messes up some gallery CSS'. Is there a piece of code that can be added to hide the subfolder bar? I went looking but couldn't see anything because I'm still very new to it all.
Second, I was trying to add a top banner to my current journal theme (which is a slightly modified version of this ), but it always turned out not looking right. It'd be placed wrong, or the green background of dA would show through, etc, etc.

Sorry to be a bother, but I'm still learning.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gillianivyart In reply to Olessan [2012-09-12 13:23:01 +0000 UTC]

First, the gallery CSS that we can edit does not include the subfolders. Unfortunately, these cannot be hidden. Gallery skins would need to be edited or compromises made to coordinate with the new layouts. Contact gallery design creators and let them know of the issues. Maybe they can help fix it.

Next, for the banner/header image, if you are placing it in your Header, this puts it in the text area. If you want it separated from your text area, you would need to give it a new div added to the CSS to specify the positioning and behavior of the image. The other solution would be to edit the existing CSS to add an image to a section of the code that is not used. This looks like an image light journal, so there should be many sections you could play with, without messing with the dog-eared corner. If you want it outside the journal design, try using:

.journalcontrol{
background:url('imageURL);
background-position:top center;
background-repeat:no-repeat;
}

This is an uncommonly used div that is a main container. You may need to adjust margins/padding to get your image where you want it. Alternately .gr-box{} may get you the same effects you want to have, but is more commonly used already.

To get a better idea what you are trying to achieve, I would need to see what your image is and know how you want it placed. Feel free to send me a link to a preview and I'll try to help further.

Where are the group rules? There are any group rules?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gillianivyart In reply to Chivi-chivik [2012-07-30 12:56:52 +0000 UTC]

There are none posted, however the moderator ranks all have come to some basic agreements. But not strict rules.

1. Copyright and permissions. We want to see credits on all submissions so we don't have to hunt down rights. This includes for snippets and free resources outside dA.
2. One of a template, this is less strict. But we want to have only one when there are alternate versions of a design. Image and theme swap is considered a template.
3. For joining as CSS Maker, we have a rule of three, with minimum of three designs (not all the same with different theme) or dA related CSS in gallery.
4. We accept journal designs, skins, gallery design/skins, user interface CSS, resources and tutorials, and anything related to deviantART CSS. No outside website/portfolio types.

We go by a voting system and we try to always give reasons for declining. We look for legibility as #1. Functionality (is CSS broken). We try not to vote on taste preferences or user skill level. We accept simple and complex skins alike. We may decline offensive materials at our discretion for considering our watchers and what they might expect. We may offer critiques and advice alongside submissions if we see something that could be improved. It is not meant as offense or anything, but as practical advice. We are very helpful of each other and welcoming of new coders. Many of the members have resources in their galleries to learn from.

I hope that answers some of your questions. Sorry we do not have official rules posted anywhere. It has been previously requested, but nothing has ever been submitted.

I've had a similar issue but for me it was Explorer which made a linebreak where it wasn't supposed to be one. I reduced the padding with just 1px and the problem was solved. Have you tried that? Or simly making one of the images 1 to a few pixels smaller? Sometimes different browsers show things slightly different. Or you could send me the code and I'll have a look at it.

Thank you so much for the answer..

no..I fixed it somehow by the changing of topmenu

width i did 104%
and left - 17 px

It is not good still ..when I make Opera or Chrome as not full screen, buttons jump..
but in full screen everything is ok ^^

thank you ...

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem I have trying to code my new journal lay out.

Everything seems to work out just like I intended, except for a few pixels above the part where it says [ # Comments | Previous Journals].
I was wondering if anyone could help me fix this, so that the footer and body fit together. Removing said part would even work for me, as dA now provides other ways of seeing previous journals and the amount of comments.

I included a picture of my problem as well as the coding I have so far (which is complete besides a few details).

Thanks in advance

I was wondering if someone could help me with my groups design super quick (#ElementsofTiadar ). Right now, the journal templates have a specified width, which shows up fine on widescreens, but users on 1024, etc. resolutions are having content getting cut. I'm curious if there's some CSS I can implement that will allow my written text to scale with the screen size instead of being cut off? (Right now the only way to remedy the situation is to ctrl - the page.)

I asked this in a note as well, but I thought I'd ask the general public too. I designed & coded the template myself, but I'm still unfamiliar with how DA does things. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

neurotype-on-discord In reply to aoCat [2012-07-18 23:33:04 +0000 UTC]

Aside from making them narrower or using a flexible width (which you could do to the text area, but the header image would still get cut off a bit), there's really not anything that works on this site.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aoCat In reply to neurotype-on-discord [2012-07-18 23:39:12 +0000 UTC]

Could you help me get the text area to become flexible? I don't mind the images getting cut off when its the content that's important. I've tried setting width to auto, and removing the width attribute altogether, for the ".journalbox .journaltext" class. But when I go to "Preview" and shorten the width of the window, the content still gets cut off instead of moving with the window size. (Although I guess, if the content is stuck to scale with the header & footer images, there's nothing I can do except change the design altogether. //boo.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

neurotype-on-discord In reply to aoCat [2012-07-18 23:46:11 +0000 UTC]

so you removed all of the width information, but part of it is still getting cut off? do you know what width this is happening at?

I mean, it's hard to tell without really playing with it myself, but I think there's a minimum limit to width that dA has going, so it's always gonna cut off on realllly narrow screens.

Yes, the da code is used for this. (there is a tutorial around for it somewhere) The easiest way (imo) is to go to your sta.sh, paste the video embed (from the share option on youtube, etc) then hold ctrl+e and copy the code that appears. Looks like: I know this works for youtube videos. You can do Vimeo, YouTube and da Film. Adjust the profile="youtube" to be the type, and the id="#####" to be the url code of the video.

For CSS it would be [imgleft] tags.
But I don't know how to do it in HTML other than div align="left".
Example; 4th post down [link]

I've seen it done on dA before, I just can't remember the name of the users so this was the only example I can really give.
