“Filthy mutt! Get out of my store, ya hear!?”
Good lord he’s got a gun. Dusk thought as he narrowly avoided another bullet. This was his first solo mission for the gang, and so far… he was failing. Horribly.
“I said to GIT!”
Dusk quickly turned down another aisle, toward the meat section.
I’ve come this far, might as well go all the way… he thought, though he shuddered at the thought of what would happen to him if he were to get caught by this… lunatic.
Approaching the fridges, Dusk was dismayed to find giant glass doors, of which he could not open. Because he was incredibly short.
“Why you little-“
BANG!
The shopkeeper, a terrible aim, blasted the glass doors with his gun, shattering glass everywhere. Taking advantage of the situation, Dusk grabbed a solitary sausage and ran. He could hear the man’s heavy footsteps close behind him, not to mention his heavy breathing and yells of rage here and there. He couldn’t get distracted from his goal though. He had to get into the gang. It was the only family he had.
Nearing the exit, Dusk had a small surge of hope that he might actually make it, unscathed. However, just as his paws touched the cool, wet cobblestone of the street,
BANG!
This time, the man did not miss. A warm, red liquid traveled down from Dusk’s ear, dripping onto the cobblestone below.
He couldn’t handle it. Dusk yelped in pain. He wasn’t strong enough. He wasn’t fast enough. He wasn’t…
Going to give up now.
Dusk’s ear stang to no end, but he still persisted. Using his fear to his advantage, he ran like he’d never run before, until he lost sight of the shopkeeper, then farther. He ran and ran, sausage clenched in his teeth like his grand prize, until he finally collapsed in the ally way that was his home.
“Welcome back, runt. You did it.”
Dusk looked up into the cold, ice-blue eyes of the gang’s leader, DayBreak.
“You mean-“
“You’re in.”
