Well you came just in time because I'm setting out on a quest in a few days to find more.

One time I bought a German mess kit for a dollar. This guy had a basement full of stuff and I was looking around unamused. It was rows and rows of military jackets and tubs full of crap, but it was all modern. He suddenly handed me this fist full of silverware and said. "Here, you can have this for a DOLLAR, man.." Or something similar. I looked at it, and my eyeballs almost fell out when I saw the oh so familiar Reich Adler. I said. "Yeah, I can do that." and forked over that dollar. My regret is I didn't look around for more, but what's done is done. Ehh, I'm satisfied.

I can't express how jealous I am.

How do you go about finding people with this kind of stuff?

I'd love to start my own collection. Most specifically at the moment, I've always wanted an SS officer uniform replica. I wonder if you know of any decent replicas on the internet? I know you deal with the real stuff, but I'm sure you've seen a fair share of replicas whilst looking for such.

Oh crap there's replicas and fakes EVERYWHERE. eBay is a decent place for replicas, and even some originals but they are few and far between. There's real stuff, but good deals like the ones I get lucky with are like 5 times in a lifetime.

With replicas the price sticks to the quality. There are really good brands like At The Front and Lost Battalions but they price heavily. www.lostbattalions.com/german3… they look wonderful though. But for half the price you can get a cheapy Chinese one on eBay for $75. Only problem is they don't look right. The cockades especially. Plus you can't buy nazi eagles or anything with a swastika because they banned them from eBay. Yeah, makes sense. That's like an ice cream truck selling fruits and vegetables.

I go from rummage sale to rummage sale to find the stuff I get. There are very poor odds that I'll find anything military. I got lucky the first time by finding a beat and rusty French helmet for $5. I almost ran away with it hahaha! I paid and sold this rusty, beat up, fraying relic for $50. My most recent addition was that yellow signals patch that I gotoff eBay for $8.50. They usually go for more but most people don't look at eBay because it's all fake crap that people get screwed with.

If fakes were a minefield it may cover the whole planet.

Yeah, I've seen quite a lot on eBay. I was browsing last night, even. The real stuff on there are all bids, naturally. The thought of bidding is unpleasant though; that kind of hope and yearning on a gamble is too much for me.

Thanks for the link. That's a pretty awesome site, and they do look amazing.

I found this site while rummaging about on zhe webs: www.ww2sale.com/ It looks pretty nifty, and the reviews within the site seem good. I'll probably end up buying from there some time.

Pfft. eBay is ridiculous.

I see. I wonder if car-boot-sales would yield anything for me then. I should've thought to look there before really. Derp.

What do you have planned for your uniform, just to post photos of yourself or are you going to become a reenactor? If you're not planning anything big I suggest picking up an East German jacket. They go cheap, and you can throw some repro medals and stuff on them. They're pretty close.

To wear as I see fit, and to gawp at. I just love the SS uniforms so much.

I probably will snag one of those some time. They do look close enough, and will do until I can gather a suitable amount of money for a replica set practically spot-on.

Thanks for the advice and stuff, you've been amazingly helpful :3
