Actually, the price is determined by 4 things:
- Your budget
- The composition
- The quality
- Backgrounds (Yes or nah?)
I work a little differently from most artists because I allow a great deal of flexibility for custom-made artwork.
This way, both parties get what they want 
Allow me to explain, I don't like pressuring or scaring customers away with my pricing so I ask them what they can afford.
The composition also determines the difficulty, hence price of the piece after its made (Things such as pose, full body/half-body/portrait also affects the price.)
The overall quality also depends on the customer. Some customers are willing to pay more for over-the-top-notch work and I'm willing to do it
Backgrounds too, it usually costs more when backgrounds, especially complex ones are included.
Unless, you'd want my usual package, where everything is fixed and the customer has limited say over the final product.
For example, you can determine the pose, the composition, and the overall mood of the artwork, but I determine the direction, style and color scheme.
Package works are priced around 30 - 35$.
Most customers prefer my custom-made option because of the flexibility but it also depends on your wallet XD You might get lucky though because some
custom works are actually cheaper than my package.

Again, you do not have to do them, but if you decide to do one or would like one to follow (ask me), you'll be in for a higher chance at winning. But again, I'm mostly judging the quality of the art, so that doesn't have to mean much; it really just depends on if the characters are drawn while in character that I'll be judging. Also, I would appreciate if the characters remained in their displayed attire, but if you want to design a new outfit for them, please let me know.
