Hello there! This is your welcome committee. Hope, you enjoyed your stay so far. Maybe you wanna take a closer look at some Groups here, there are plenty of communities for every topic, and it´s a great way to get a larger audience.

Yea, Deviantart is community that stays interesting. How do I go about asking groups if I can join & submit some of my content to them?

When you move your cursor to the top bar, go to "More, and you´ll see the button "Groups". Then you´ll get an overwiew on many different groups, wich you can then sort out by Media (if you´re a digital artist, you wanna join a group, that features digital art), Location, and other parameters, or you can directly search for a goup to your liking.
Visit the groups site, wher you will find the button "join our group". Klick on it, and just introduce yourself in a few words to request to join the group. Many groups will ad you automatically, after you send the request note, others will maybe have a look at your gallery first, and send you a short note about their descission. Don´t worry, all of the administrators are just people like you and me. Just make sure, you read the group rules, and have a look at their galleries to see, wich kind of artwork/media they accept, before you join.
