Commander-Veld [2010-09-08 04:46:15 +0000 UTC]
An office door stood before him. It wasn't as impressive as he had been expecting, but that didn't do any less to quell the feeling of power stirring behind it.
Though it was hard to admit it to himself, the older man had a rather tough time getting to this point. Not because he was aging, but because of the pride he kept hidden away, and... a small sense of fear? Was that it? He knew very well that he might be thrown into prison, or worse, though it was unlikely.
Afterall, people like Director Lazard were let back. Veld had a marginally better chance than they did, did he not?
Knock, knock.
Perhaps he was more prepared for this than he had given himself credit for. Now he was knocking for admittance before he'd had time to think about it.
It was time to put all of that behind him, now. He came here on a mission to be brought back to his ragtag family of assassins and help the company restore its former glory, and beyond.
The ex commander of the Turks stood alert, breath bated.

Tch. 'Heard the humors,' huh? I'm surprised you haven't just seen it yourself. It's visible from the ranch, likely enough. ...The repairs should be done before the next frost, if nothing else is broken and the populace stays out of the construction zone.
[the chance of that actually working in his favor: about negative seventy-five percent]
But of course, it's always wonderful to hear that the staff still finds it fun to gossip behind my back. [insincere smile, letting the pen come to rest and leaning back in his chair, tipping it back and steepling his fingers in front of his mouth]
Take a look around. You can imagine what's going on without a detailed explanation. Tseng is currently out of commission, Katana's gone missing, I have no real idea what the rest of the motley crew is up to, and I know some of them haven't reported back at all.
...Ah. Rude's been looking for you, on that note.
I'd give you more information, but I haven't had any time to spend around here. It's difficult work, getting the rest of the world to accept the company's return. So many campaigns, so little patience. [mild sigh; he still likes his speeches, but traveling all over in a helicopter is more than enough to kill his enthusiasm]
If you have specific questions, surprise-surprise, I'll see if the database has anything. Other than that, you're on your own. Fair enough?

... Well. I was busy helping the blondie up in the lobby. So ehh... [shrug.]
I can't think of anything else I need to know. I'm like a rumor collecter - people keep telling me things. [snicker.] So don't worry Rufus. Since Tseng's m-i-h, I'll take charge.
[obviously joking about that.]
Already met a lot of old faces. They seemed pretty happy to be around. You've done a hell of a job at re-recruiting.
Shotgun and Rod might have been a bit of a mistake. [laugh. doesn't mean any foul towards his fellow redhead and fierce ponytail woman; just saying it to cool any jets.]

Aurora-Beaumont [2009-10-31 21:01:23 +0000 UTC]
Aurora lightly steps into the office dressed in a white short sleeved blouse and a short black skirt, all hugging her petite but curvy frame nicely as her ShinRa lapel pin glints on the collar of her shirt. She takes a look around at the utter state of dishevelment his office was in and shakes her head. Everywhere were stacks and piles of unorganized paperwork on not just the desk but the couch and the floors as well.
Her eyebrows go up and the pretty young woman in the door adjusts her glasses. "Well, it would appear that you are in dire need of someone to organize this mess for you."
She smiles at him, unaffected by the cold stare she knows she will receive, having begun working for Rufus just before the young man's father was killed. Everyone had split up after the company went under, and he seemed to disappear from the face of the planet, but in her heart, Aurora knew that Rufus was far too stubborn to simply die off.
She smiled at him again. "You look homicidal, and we can't have that. How about I make you some coffee and you can tell me where you'd like me to begin."

"I don't need any help from anybody," the blond man snapped without looking up, assuming that the speaker was just a do-nothing busybody that couldn't keep her smart-alek opinions to herself. Lord knew he had enough of those around to deal with.
And most knew nothing about him other than his name and historical rumor. Really, he was sure some people still thought he was an impostor of the "real" Rufus Shinra. Idiots.
"I know where everything is and can get it whenever I need it. I don't need the likes of someone like y--" In an attempt to fix raging eyes on the naysayer, he actually recognized her. "...So you're back, are you? One of those who want to repay their debts?"
Part of him raged, but whether that was fresh emotion or just runoff from earlier messes remained to be seen.
"...Hn. Do whatever you want. I don't care." Rufus Shinra was not a man who admitted he needed help under any circumstance, let alone one like this. He had been doing admirably so far. Anything else would be a bitter, crumpling defeat that he, for one, did not feel like succumbing to. He'd gone on long enough without a secretary or any help aside from Tseng, and he did not need it now, regardless of financial, political, economical, or communal crises.
Which were all painfully present. This reconstruction was more of a pain than he had predicted.
(And a howdy-doody t'you, too. owo♥ Good luck dealing with him~)

"Hmm...I don't recall owing any debts," she said, her voice bordering on sarcasm. "I came here because I wanted to be here." She went to the coffee maker and measured out some grounds, put it in a filter, and then put the filter in the pot. She pushed the button to let it brew and picked up a file from one of the stacks that appeared to be a personnel file. She glanced at the employee hire date, seeing that it was quite recent. "But I will take that as a 'I'm glad you're here' and begin categorizing the filing cabinets. I will also be sure to assist Tseng in getting our re-hired Turks updated files and enter them into the database along with the new and returning employees."
The coffee stopped brewing, and Aurora picked up a clean mug, poured a cup, and put in just the right amount of cream and sugar for Rufus's taste. Even though it had been so long since she had worked for him, Aurora still remembered how he liked his coffee. She took it over to his desk and placed the cup near him. "Take a break for just five minutes and have some coffee. You look like you could use it," she said sincerely before getting to work.
(OOC: Hee hee...looks like Aurora's in for it, but that's okay. She is the type of person who always knows just the right thing to do or say and she's really good at making his life easier. She's also good at fixing computers and she can be like Rufus in a sense where if something isn't getting done or if something isn't up to her standards, which are quite high, she tends to simply tackle it herself Over the years she has known Rufus, she actually has gotten quite good at killing him with kindness. )

He had tried to go back to the work at hand, he really did. But she wouldn't stop babbling, and ceaseless chatter in his ear was not helping matters. It was worse than listening to Reno garble on and on.
Pale eyes fixed irately on her back as she bustled about, and an arm folded on top of the document that should have had his attention. No sense trying to work on it now. He'd probably write some Freudian slip instead of what should have gone in the blank. Goodness knew he didn't need that. "Fine, then," he grumped, pride refusing to admit that she probably had a point. He had been ahead of schedule for weeks. Then more Turks kept showing up. And two of them blew up his lobby.
Currently, he was behind in quite a way. Rufus didn't approve much.
"Since you're getting right back into things, I'll update you, and that will be my break. I know that at least three of the returning Turks are already on the payroll and fitted with equipment. They're taken care of. The rest, unless Tseng had the time to poke around the warehouses and our contacts, are left to their own devices." Bitterly, he noted that Shotgun was one of those Turks. They would be working for months to cover the costs. He'd guarantee it.
"The reconstruction of the lobby should be starting within a few days. I've already partitioned the area and directed most of the traffic to another end of the building. I'm not sure what you can do that, but I bet you'll find something. Have fun with that."
Raising the mug to his lips -- he was running low on energy, after all -- the blond mused on what else he was missing. Probably quite a bit. He didn't want to undermine her abilities, since he had proven herself in the past, but if you needed to know something, you needed to know, end of story.
"...Oh. If you receive any problems from the Turks, you are more than welcome to shoot them."
(She reminds me of Tseng, almost. XD God, I dunnu how I'll be able to tackle TWO saints in the company at once. It might just kill me, as you said. <3
But lordy, does he need the help. Files and hate mail and bills, oh my! -shot-

Aurora shook her head amusedly. "I doubt I will have any trouble, but if I do, I will be sure to inform Tseng about it." She moved a box of files on the couch and sat in the empty space and began sifting through the folders and putting them in the order they belonged. "As soon as I get a computer up here, I will begin entering the new hire information which will cut down on these stacks considerably. As for the new Turks, I will work with Tseng and obtain any files he has and update the information."
Aurora pulled aside another box full of mail and marked 'Unwanted', most of it was apparently hate and junk mail. "In the meantime, I will burn this box of hate mail and speak to the contractors as well as IT and see how things are coming along and coordinate those efforts so you may have more time for more important things."
(Ha ha...she really is a saint, honestly. And she gets along awesomely with Tseng

If, by some magical twist of fate, President Shinra happens to reappear, I'm sure you'll mourn the loss of power over the world, essentially.
Unless you happen to choose to fight him for that power. I'm sure that would be a most interesting display of matricide. Not that it would be a total loss to the Planet...
But I digress.
At least the SOLDIERs will be pleased to see my return, if no one else.
...I could say the same to you, dear brother. I hear you survived being shot by a WEAPON.
((ooc: i have no clue if "matricide" is the right word. i assumed it was "killing one's parent(s)", but mostly i think i've heard it in context for killing one's mother. i dunno, JUST PRETEND IT MEANS WHAT I ASSUMED IT MEANT and if it doesn't, just pretend i used the right word.))

...-digs his nails into the palms of his hands; says nothing in regards to that musing-
For years, that's all they talked about: your disappearance, how the branch was mutating without your leadership, everything along those lines. It got old. They take change very badly, for warriors who face death on a daily basis. -snort-
Hn? Oh, that's not the only thing. I attract death like a plague, it looks like. Diamond WEAPON, kidnapping, torture, Geostigma, gunshot wounds... I've had an exciting few years, indisputably. Heh. It's probably not over yet, either.
But enough about old news. How was your mystery vacation? I'm sure you'll be asked about it.

I understood that two of my Turks -- my Turks -- acted like bipolar, disgusting children and despite every conceivable warning that I have possibly given them, let alone the obvious signs everywhere to begin with, they destroyed my lobby, which is, roughly, seventy percent of what was even inhabitable in this waking construction hole, regardless of what it would cost to repair it.
Is that what I heard? Tell me it's not, Rod.
...Ah. But you know... Let's not forget the image this will project to the public. -laughs- "Construction just started and things are already crashing down about his ears!" ...-narrows his eyes-
No, actually, I'm not. I'm not like you. I see no reason to ruin flooring because of groundless personal issues. I've got something much better in mind.
-digs through a folder or two for confirmation; that'll do nicely-
Since you so kindly offered, I'll call your bluff. Not only will the two of you be compensating for the furniture, decoration, and initial labor costs that were crudely disregarded, you will be paying for the refurnishing, cleanup, reconstruction, and material-and-labor replacement costs to return everything to normal.
Simply put, every last cent that you destroyed, you will pay back double, and possibly more, depending on whether or not the construction materials are easy to get a hold of and if they even have enough to go around.
-shuffles the folders back into their orderly manner-
Some of our best scientists were in Icicle Lodge. They're needed back here now, and I doubt they'd have heard about our efforts this early on. Katana was up that way, apparently, and he only knew about our efforts after moving to another area. It tells you just how backwater these places are, hm? To start on your half of the debt, you will be handling this situation. This entails, briefly, finding our researchers, convincing them to come back, helping them pack, patrolling and protecting the town and them, eliminating perceived threats, spreading the news of and speaking in favor of the company's reconstruction, answering questions and advising interested citizens, travelers, and any other applicable sorts of whatever they want to and should hear.
If you manage to finish all of that and actually satisfy the settlement in all aspects of that, then I'll expand this project into the rest of the continent. Why should the lesser towns be left with no information, hm?
How does that sound, Rod? Fair enough?

A comb was run through her hair simply. There was no need for anything too fancy, the suit she wore covered most of it. The rest of the formality she'd supply fair enough, hopefully.
Knife's hand reached forward, first gently attempting to pull it forward-- then realizing the door was a push door and pushing it instead, smiling at how idiotic the attempt had been.
Thankfully, her eyes fell upon Rufus as being the one in charge, currently. It would probably be for the best to talk to him, if anyone. The smile softened to be more polite as she decided to speak.
"Ah, Sir. I wanted to request to be a Turk again, since those rumors I heard were apparently true." she explained, simply, before moving her hands behind her back and waiting for a response.

"Ah, Tseng. Welcome back. Go ahead and leave it by the door for now. I'll get it as soon as I've finished with this contract." Without looking up, he flicked his hand in the general direction of the door, signaling a get-out-please-and-thank-you formation.
Of course, this was before the woman opened her mouth.
"...Hn?" Knowing full-well this wasn't Tseng's voice, he raised his eyes from his paperwork to see who hadn't bothered to knock.
Her face was vaguely familiar. The suit helped, and that, coupled with her own words, was enough for him to believe that she had been a Turk back in AVALANCHE's baby days. A minute or two of silence and retrospection passed, and he... kind of remembered her. She was Katana's sister or partner or something like that.
Details weren't really important.
"Is everyone that eager to come back?" Rufus sighed, running a hand over his hair. "It's barely been four months and I've barely lifted a finger yet to gather them. I've sent letters to a few, and back when I first got the idea in my head, I talked to Rod in person, but everyone else -- and I do mean everyone else -- has flocked back of their own accord with little to no help from me or the other five. It's... almost concerning, really.
"But really," he continued, after a pause, "I'm in no position to contest it, nor am I about to scorn what's handed to me right now. I'll let you back in -- really, I would have sought you out sooner or later, anyway -- but for the sake of making this look formal and holding up a pretense of integrity, I'll get this out of the way."
The blond worked on digging out a checklist he'd put together to assist himself with informing all the returning crew what he expected of them and needed done before he could let them start up as a true Turk once again.
Of course, it wasn't where he'd last put it. Magnificent. This damn office had so many people coming through it, be it through the door, phonecalls, e-mails, postage, or otherwise, he was sure he could lose his own feet in the ensuing mess.
A hapless little clipboard would always be the first thing to go if it was the most important thing on his list at-present. Two hours ago, three contracts had been buried alive under that mornings' mail. It had taken at least ten minutes to find them, let alone uncover them.
Frustrated, he laid his elbows heavily back onto the desktop, office-damaged fingers digging into his hair. "If you have anything to say after all that, this would be your chance," he ground out. "Who knows how long it's going to take to find it this time."
(WHOOOOO, DRABBLE.)

The dark-haired Turk was tempted to laugh at Rufus's apparent pain-- but she knew now would not be the best time for it, especially after so long. This was not the time too loose her chance, the time to do that would have been around fifteen minutes ago, or better yet, yesterday. Now was the time to take everything that was thrown at her, before the missed the chance.
Of course, the mess around the room was a bit uncomfortable, but she didn't comment on it. Just as now was not the time to laugh, now was not the time to criticize her boss. There was never a right time to criticize your boss, and Knife was smart enough to know this-- unlike some of the other turks, apparently. She didn't want to get on Rufus's bad side, no matter how prideful the Vice President was.
Taking a deep breath, he smile brightened. "I wouldn't say a word, sir." she said, standing up straight, more properly than before. "Is anything going on, or is Shinra just being rebuilt?"
Her curiosity peeked. She knew the building was unfinished, and would be an idiot to think that it was not. She was, however, curious about what was going on otherwise. She'd been away from the Turks for so long, so long, but what had changed? She guessed that with the state Shinra was in, nobody was going to have to actually fight, yet. That realization had saddened her for a moment-- but Rufus said there were more Turks.
"Which Turks are here, as well?" she added on, thinking after a moment to ask, since she might as well not dilly-dally. Any second waited is a second wasted. She didn't want to waste any time, not now. It wasn't the time to wait, and she knew that full-well. She only hoped the other Turks did, because if they didn't, it might as well be a death trap for them to fight at all, after so much time.
She blinked once or twice, white spots filling her eyes. Agh, she was tired, why? Past the blinking and notice, she didn't let the fatigue show. That would be overrated.

Once everything settled down, the chaos in paperwork form would ultimate die down with it. It was a small fraction of the reason why he wanted to get everything finished and finalized and soon as humanly possible. Shifting one pile of bills onto his lap, he tipped through the stack of clipboards beneath them, assuming it would be there.
Thankfully, it was, but it took about two rechecks to find it. Reconstruction was a pain in the ass, and for once, he allowed himself to wonder how Reeve, of all people, had the stomach to manage it.
"Here it is." Having no real object to direct that statement to, Rufus reassembled the intricate pile of bills by slapping the envelope bottoms off his desktop, returning them to their perch. "To answer your questions, though, there is something going on. It probably sounds ridiculous, but there are ideas I have to assist the world's reconstruction efforts that just handing out gil won't cover. Everyone is looking into older resources the Planet has built into it to decrease or eliminate Mako energy -- not like we'd resort to it again, anyway -- but no one is thinking along the lines of repairing what was lost. Villages and cities, of course, are being fixed, but that goes without saying. The Lifestream itself, primarily, is what I'm talking about."
Folding his arms over the splayed clipboard before him, he fixed his eyes on the returning Turk's face. "There has to be some way to either repair it or strengthen it, and Shin-Ra was known for its scientific advances, back when insanity wasn't part of the publicized menu. I intend to help with the more... 'worldly' repairs, while Reeve and the background committees chip at the surface issues. Of course, that's only a small part of my overall goals, but it's the first one I want implemented."
Not even bothering to ask if she understood, he cleared his throat and returned his attention to the list at hand. "Right then. You are one of the last Turks to come back -- it's down to Legend, Gun, and our fistfighter to see who gets last place -- but that doesn't excuse you from the same treatment everyone else is getting. You'll be subjected to basic retraining to test your skills and rate of decline, which will be remedied if it's deemed necessary. I'll issue you higher-grade weaponry and materia as deemed necessary, and your PHS system will be handed over to you once that's handled. Once all of that is out of the way, then you'll be free to join the rest of them unless something else comes up.
"Is that satisfactory?" Rufus raised a brow in her direction, offering up that Hobson's Choice with little concern for its overall effect. It would be done that way no matter how it was met, honestly. It was through sheer politeness that he even asked.

"I assure you, Sir, I am just as sharp as I ever was, if not better." She spoke, a smile on her lips, giving a slight bow out of a similar politness, though more profound and natural than the vice president's.
Her mind centered only for a second on the matter at hand, about herself returning to the Turks once more, regaining the job she'd had years ago. Retraining couldn't be that big of a deal. She was still a bit slow-- due to her bullet wound, naturally-- but her knife skills were fine, and those were the main source for her. Her name reflected it.
As for the remaining Turks, she saw no surprise in it, honestly. Elena would probably be along soon, and who knows about Legend. Did Legend even matter anymore? She'd never exactly seen him as a really important part of the turks.
Swiftly, however, her mind wandered. If those were the only missing ones, that meant everyone else was there. It was far too quiet, however, for them to be. What about the loud noises that usually were around? The shouts of other Turks fighting with eachother? Paticularly, she meant Shotgun and Rod.
However, the statement about rebuilding the Lifestream interested her. She would have thought rebuilding the Lifestream would be one of the first things anyone bothered to do. She only prayed it wouldn't be straight-out war again. It was stupid for them all to just keep fighting, over and over again. There was no logic in it-- then again, she was technically fighting for peace as a Turk. That only made about as much sense, though she believed it made more.
Quickly, the dark haired Turk shook her mind back to the topic at hand. "It is satisfactory, yes."

-brow raise- Glad to hear it. You know what to do from here.
I am sorry to say, though, that I haven't heard from Reno for a while. You'll be fine doing solo work until he shows up, won't you?
(I toldja she's a sweetie.
-kinda glad the nickname's getting wide-spread, too, pfft- <3)

Vice President Rufus.. Long time-no see. Not that I'm all too enthusiastic to see you. -cocks her head back, the black mire of her hair finding rest along her back as she stretches gracefully-
[Hello, sugar. I'm finally able to take hold of this account~ I'm so happy you showed me this.]

Hn. That's no way to behave. Two years ago, I would have warranted a welcome like that, but really, you won't even give me a chance to make up for the past? -steeples his fingers, brow cocked idly- Like it or not, we are allies, anymore. You could at least try to be polite about it, right? -manages a smile-
(Excellent~ I'm glad you're enjoying the group so far, seriously. At this rate, it'll be up to speed in nnnno time. ♥ )

Hn... Maybe. Seeing as it's your fault the planet is in the hurting state it's in.. Polite just might not be in my vocabulary right now. -she rushes her fingers across her bangs, pushing them out of her auburn eyes, forcing a smirk- Vice-President Shinra. Handsome man, sorry attitude.
(I have no problem with the pace at all, hon. I'm happy with things as it is. Heh~)

-fights a scowl, the corner of his lip twitching in agitation- ...I'll ignore that last bit. To be fair and completely objective here... -pushes himself back from his desk, keeping himself distanced from pens or anything else that might be capable of causing damage when thrown- Not the entirety of the Planet's condition is my fault. I'm the last of the chain, and I think I deserve at least a little credit for picking up the messes my father and who-knows-who-else created. As far as I'm concerned, this is in the past and it cannot be helped.
It can, however, be fixed, and if you intend to be more of a thorn in my side than an angel above, you can remove yourself without a second look back. I'm expecting more than enough pitfalls and traps as it is -- far too many difficulties to list right now -- without any unneeded hassle.
(Good, good. oxo 'Cause I was worried that'd be a problem, in all honestly. Glad it's not. <3 On a side note.
...OUCH. OUCH, that burned. I had no reply to that comment for about... jeez. Two hours from the point that I read it. My inner Rufus died a little inside. You and Loz, you're both horrible. ;x; )

-she fiddles with her gloves in the hidden pocket of her apron, her blood rush settling down- You're a sneaky one, Mr. -Vice- President. Heh... -she takes no hesitation in stepping foreward- Fine, I guess I could learn to let bigons be bigons.
What did you have in mind? Heal the planet? Well with the horrible wound that's digging within it... What could we possibly do?
(Well I love this little R/T action we have going on so far~ After all it's one of my favorite pairings, yaaaay~

Essentially, the proper reference would be "president," wouldn't it? My father is long dead, as you're well aware. You were there when he was killed off, if I remember right. -quirks a brow, leaning back in both mild amusement and interest; was she always this bold?-
I'll leave the more specific details out of it, since everything is essentially... frozen in the planning stages right now, and it would be suicide to say everything that might not even make it past tentative blueprints, but it's definitely far past multiple reform groups. If possible, I'd like to help develop a supplement to the LifeStream. Not something that will make Mako energy more efficient -- I'd be murdered, and I wouldn't blame the killing hand one bit -- but something that would actually help repair it. There are enough motivated saviors working on finding new resources, so why not start backwards and fix part of what was damaged?
...It's just an idea, but I've got high hopes for it. That's not a problem, is it?

-she scoffed and rolled her eyes, leaning foreward, copying his every move almost as if she was trying to get a rise out of him-
Well, Edge is basically a remnant of what was once our home.
As you well know, there isn't a lot of space in the ruins to do much..clean up. -she coughs, fixing a spare piece of hair out of her eyes again- My bar is fixed within our city, where family lives. I'd like for them to feel safe coming out on our streets, as you probably understand; so if these "motivated saviors" you have are ready to get a jump start, so am I. -she winks happily at the man, jumping back onto his ever so fancily cushioned couch- Hmm.. Rich boy, eh?
