Well, the challenges don't ever expire- you can always do them.
But, yeah, I need to throw up some new ones eventually.

Uhh.... Sorta. A little bit. I can be more active but it's been pretty dead around here for awhile (like half the year) so I don't check it much anymore. -_-

Can we have characters which require less research and more emphasis on character and personality? I just find each task to be such a long research project that I usually give up before I actually draw the character itself...

Thank you for pointing that out.
We try to give assignments concerning "everyday" characters, not "boss" characters. The additional info is meant as a guide, not specifications that have to be followed. Would you think, "halloween monster" instead of "will o'wisp" would have been easier, or "policeman" instead of "deputy sheriff", with the added info that this could be a London policeman or a sheriff?

How about, instead of a poloceman or debuty sheriff, go for corrupted cop, or firearms expert, or the boss' favorite?
What you have doesn't speak of character, or personality of the being, it's only a description of something to be research, and usually in quite a bit of detail.
Like in nuclear mutant I would have to research how flesh melts when met with nuclear particles, what treatments are applied after to patch things up, how the fragile bones and excess skin would leave scars in events long after the exposure. What a certain wound in a leg would cause to his gait and how that would affect the character's posture some time later, etc, etc, etc.

I see what you mean. However, I think you are overthinking the thing. Being scientifically sound is not required for cool concepts.
Personality definitions are up to you. You can imagine yourself what kind of person a ranger/courtier/jazz musician may be.

I see where you're getting at, though I still think if it'd be cool if there was a predefined characteristic to the design, the way it is with real world clients.
From my personal experience, scientifically sound designs is a great part of them appearing cool, that combined with personality and character. It's bad drawing something totally from your imagination of how something is supposed to look like, without even learning the facts behind the design you're supposed to do. This is what reference and research are for in projects, and you can rarely do a good design without them.

I'll see what I can do about characteristics.
You misunderstood me. I merely meant to say, you don't need to go to med school to make a proper design

Thank you very much for the invitation but I have to decline it, I'm not someone really studious and hard-working with assignments

No problem.
I just thought you might like to, being a portrait artist. You wouldn't have to do all the assignments btw.

The goal of the group, training common characters, will be a lot easier when you're doing it digitally. If you think you can pull it off with physical paint, I won't stop you. It finally depends on what you can produce.
