hey. sorry i disappeared before. was on my bed reading.. hah... re: cameras.. .i recently bought a 550D (canon)... if you're looking for an entry level the canon 1100D or the nikon 3100D are of a similar level.. then the 550D/600D (canon) or the nikno 5100D are of another similar level
i love the 550D 
I just got it with the kit lens 18-55mm ... which is ok.. but from my holiday in january I now know what other lens i'll probably invest in
but honestly.. for a dslr... either nikon or canon is a-ok... and it's te lenses in the end that you can invest in later depending on what sort of photos you want to take
depends on your budget too I guess?
anyway.. i'm quite the nooB... let me know if there's anything I can help you with .. and I'll try.. otherwise the others in photogs chat are pretty helpful

I was thinking of going for the Nikon D90! In fact, I'm pretty much certain that's what I'm going for haha xD I was unsure about the lenses - I went into a shop and looking through them today just so that I know what to expect. The kit lens is good for landscapes but I think it's a little less -fun- since it's more for infinite focus than going for the contrast between focus and no focus. I was going to purchase the body only and get the lenses separate since that seems to be working out cheaper for me. I'd love the 18-55mm lens but I think if I had to go for one, I'd rather get a 70-200mm or something simply since it feels like you can get more creative shots out of it... I'd love them both but arghh ;__;
I've been doing a lot of research of my own too and while I'm NooB as well, if you have anything you'd like to discuss don't hesitate to ask me xD
