Thanks for the comment! As for the setup, it was *really* simple. Single light source - desk lamp 60W 25-30 cm away from my face and nothing else. Which is why half is white and half is black, anything that is out of the lamp's circle of light is gone. Next time I'll get a fill light um.... floor lamp 60W ~1.5 m away from my face, I guess.
The rest is.... 50 mm, f/5.6, exposure 125. Camera about 0.7m away (on a pile of CD's ) , so I don't always fit into the frame even.
Oh, and a mirror behind the camera... for self portraits, I can't do without.

Ya, that pic is of the shorebreak on a 20 ft or so day on the outside.
Wave there is about 2-4ft hawaii'n. Breaking on sand-bar in about 4-5 ft of water.
Beach is probably 15-20 meters away.
But since its Waimea, yes it is sucking HARD.
Have seen waves there suck up 4 feet of water into the face. It's disgusting.
No way to stand up. Yer board would snap like a toothpick. And then you'd be boohoo, i broke my board and have to watch from the beach as i get barreled over and over and over.

Thank you very much for the input on my latest pieces. I think you are right about the black and whites. Black and white seems to bring out emotion better than color...less to look at. The tight crops...hmm...maybe if I have a better 'studio' setup I shall pull the crop out a bit. Thanks again.
