Ok so my friend is tracing last time I tryied to call her out she got mad...
I know she is tracing because each drawing is a different style
on every drawing the shading is drastically different
the linart sucks
the drawings are VERY similar to some artists here on DA

(this friend is not on DA)

I am an ex-tracer and I am dedicated to exposing as many tracers as possible.  While I traced and posted it, I was drawing for real on paper but tracing digitally and posting it.  I since have deleted my traced art and posted my real art.  Are there any anti-tracing groups dedicated to exposing tracers and art thief's?

Tracing is copying. Copying is not theft.

tracing can actually cost artists jobs. if a piece in their portfolio has been traced by someone else, and potential employer finds the traced drawing, then they won’t want to hire the artist because they won’t want to take the chance that the artist traced the other person. just a little fun fact for you.

Hey! I'm trying to spread this everywhere that I can so this user  is an avid tracer who blocks/deletes all comments when they call her out on it and is stealing the art of many artists around this website and others.

Guys, please answer, is this considered tracing/illegal on Deviantart? (look at the description):  maruankaled.deviantart.com/art…
while i was drawing, i would look at the original picture, and then would try to replicate.

neonglitzz In reply to MaruanKaled [2018-09-21 23:02:21 +0000 UTC]

No it's not tracing. Tracers take all of the credit and claim it as their own. They will normally play dumb and act like they didn't.

Purp1eM0nsta In reply to MaruanKaled [2018-05-09 21:33:28 +0000 UTC]

That is tracing but since you credited the original art its not  art  theft, so your ok

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Griffonmender In reply to MaruanKaled [2015-11-22 21:50:16 +0000 UTC]

No, that would be using a reference. Although if your picture is essentially the same as the original, you should give credit.

And on a sidenote, using references is an actual legit method for improving one's art, unlike tracing, so you're fine.

squooshi In reply to MaruanKaled [2015-04-26 23:53:43 +0000 UTC]

No, that's not considered tracing or illegal. It's just a ref but just make sure to always include that you got the ref from the source.

I have a question.
A traced base, that gave credit for the original picture, and the digital dolls that were made using the base, which also gave credit to the original base maker, is considered the "tracing" you're against?

MOM0KI [2014-10-20 02:37:18 +0000 UTC]

I recently was at a convention and saw art that looked really oddly familiar being sported by a group, saying that one of the members drew it.  I feel like I've seen it before, and after talking about it with other people, they agreed that it looked oddly familiar as well.  I don't mean to point fingers or ask this, but I want to confront them because I'm nearly positive it was traced, but I wont say anything unless I find the original work.  Have any of you seen art that looks oddly similar to this?:
gyazo.com/f604a3f22c81187cd19c…
I cropped out the logo so I don't embarrass the group or anything.
if you have, please tell me and link me to the original artwork.  If you're positive it's not, please tell me!

miki-sunshine In reply to Ewxep [2015-12-22 07:57:33 +0000 UTC]

Um... Well if you use a picture as a reference then that isn't tracing, but if you directly go over the lines of the picture then it is. Some people say tracing is a good way to learn (as long as you don't try to pass it off as your own art) because it helps you get used to the way the lines flow etc. (sorry if that didn't actually answer your question..)

I think I have an Idea but we need a lot of people for it and I mean so much people that he can't ban them all. All those people than start to post some nice and uplifting comments and try to cheer him up. We post so much love that he can't resist to it. Maybe it's a bit risky but I saw something similar on twitch before. They called it "viewers of love" and it worked perfectly. But at first we need an army of deviantart members. what do you think?

Reverse image search. Creative wording in your google image search. Generally "sexy manga drawing" plus the specifics finds it.

I find it funny that this account has existed for over six years, and all of it's stamps are still relevant today, possibly even more so than before. Good job DeviantyART admins, on letting people steal art and not giving two shits about it. Only someone with the brain of a deckchair would refuse to delete an obviously traced picture, or even an edited one, but yet I've seen it here, every fucking day. :/

sleet-the-wolf [2014-04-07 22:16:32 +0000 UTC]

Although i strongly agree with your point, i feel i should put mine forwards also.
When i started drawing i was crap. theres no two ways about it. i couldnt draw a damn thing. so, i decided to trace, to boost my confidence. i continued to trace for about 7 months and by that time i had managed to get a relitive hold of it, and stopped tracing completely. i practiced day in day out, ditermined to master it.
And here i am today, 4 years later, with an A* in the  subject.
i guess what im trying to say is you could start with tracing at the beggining, to build confidence, but after that you should stop alltogether.
i fully understand why you see tracing as so bad and unnaceptable, and i in turn hope you can see mine that is all

makeyourownmusic In reply to sleet-the-wolf [2014-08-06 11:02:50 +0000 UTC]

I did that too, when I started drawing my favourite characters! But over time I got more confident (something I thought would be impossible) and now I can happily draw those characters on my own - I use a screenshot as a rough reference to look at, but im slowly starting not to rely on that either Its the pics that are so obviously traced that are wrong.

why thank you, ma'am!

I just remembered something else...Some people have said they could even trace because they made the lines wonky when they did- i realise that I too found it hard in the end, it seems much easier to draw from scratch- even tracing my own stuff is hard! XD

sleet-the-wolf In reply to makeyourownmusic [2014-12-13 18:24:03 +0000 UTC]

makeyourownmusic In reply to sleet-the-wolf [2014-12-22 16:16:08 +0000 UTC]

I only think it should ever be used to drawing, or like me if you trace your own drawing to get rid of erase marks etc, but shouldnt be put on DA and claimed as your own. Some people seem to think that noone can tell the difference, but then DA are bad for allowing it There was a user here who had so many traced images of the ninja turtles and snow white, but i think she got deactivated after my many reports. And the worse thing is, when such stuff still gets praise I mean, can people really not tell?
