"The fourth wall" is a theater term referring to the metaphorical wall between the actors or characters and the audience. Any time a character speaks directly to the audience, they are "breaking the fourth wall". Deadpool frequently recognizes the fact that he's in a comic book, so he often breaks the fourth wall.
