Description Back in early 2006 when I joined Sodor Island Forums, one of the facets of fan art that grabbed by attention most was Thomas Spriting. Small, basic, but colourful and often detailed little pixel arts of Thomas characters and locations seemed to capture my imagination. So I started spriting- first the standard smaller scale that was prevalent at the time, and then 'Large Scale'. In November 2006 I released the first 'Extra-Large' sprites following a request- all the narrow-gauge engines at the time. After that there was an avalanche of requests and spriting, and from then until around December 2008 pretty much all of the characters seen above were created alongside countless smaller sprites (all bar Stanley and Isobella- they were made but never released at the time). At that time my enthusiasm for sprites somewhat deteriorated, so I quietly 'retired' spriting. I haven't done much spriting recently, but still have my complete collections (which overall contain over 1900 individual sprites o_o ) I also have incomplete XL sprites in my archives from back then too- Old Stuck-Up, Blister I/II and a single wheel intended to become Bertie!

So above you'll find every XL sprite I did, in their original form. Looking back at them I can definitely spot scale and detail issues that should probably be fixed, but ah well.. I might get around to it one day.

No doubt the XL sprite concept blew up with the fandom, on and off SiF, as to this day I still see sprite sheets of Thomas character variants and OCs, all derived from my original artwork. In some ways I feel guilty to have developed an outlet for hundreds of pointless recolours and OCs that flood the interwebs, but I suppose their creators would have found other ways to show off their 'creativity'. So yeah, blame me for all that!

I remember these!
It's been a long time since I've seen them. Those Arlesdale engines were quite tiny!
Truth be told I tried to create my own sprite characters using these.. I got a little too impatient with the details, though!

Great to see these again.

I think I remember seeing those old sprites on majhost years ago.
