Description Joseph is an F class 4-12-4 steam locomotive built in 1996 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Legoland State Railroad (LSR). His class was designed to haul passenger and freight trains on the LSR. The first 15 were ordered and delivered to the Legoland State Railroad in 1996 and were numbered 9900-9914. The second batch of 15 were ordered in 1998. The second series were numbered 9915-9929. Joseph was the first of the type, built as an experimental test locomotive with a 100 grand cost divided between the LSR and the BLW. As a result, both companies money was split into 2 and the LSR & BLW had 50 grand on their pockets in order to build the class. After being rolled out of the works, he was delivered to the Legoland Town Shed on 2 April 1996 and, after some final work there, was moved to the depot for display west of the passenger station on May 13. The following day, he moved west, starting out on the old main line from Legoland Town, part of the original railroad bypassed by a later LSR realignment. He was inspected at each division point, finally arriving at Lego City just after midnight on the 17th of May. The first test was on the 15th May, over Tyler's Peak. Strings of cars lined Highway 30 just west of town as people came to see him running. Arriving at Lego City after midnight, it underwent a complete inspection and lubrication before continuing testing well into June, running up 4,159 miles. Once out of testing, Joseph was assigned to the main roundhouse where he operated as part of the freight pool and was shopped according to mileage schedules. Joseph was finally retired in May 2006, the last of his type to be retired, he moved under his own power to the Eastern Lego City Yard before being towed to the Legoland Railroad Museum. Today, Joseph is on static display at the Legoland Railroad Museum in Lego City, Legoland, and is also owned by the museum. Meanwhile, other giant LSR Steamers were put back to service like the F 4-6-2 No 500, H-1 2-8-4 No. 123, KX 4-12-12-4 No. 4610, KK 4-6-6-4 No. 3105 (just to name a few), on the other hand, Joseph is not likely to ever run under his own power again anytime soon, unless if someone has the money and facility to afford & restore it to running condition.
