Description

This is an alien world which orbits around a red dwarf in a binary star system. Due to the fact that the habitable zone in this case would be really close to the star, it takes up a much larger portion of the sky than our own sun does in our sky. Because of the difference in star, plant life would be red here, rather than green, to capitalize on the nature of the sunlight hitting the planet. This is because plant life on our own earth is green, and green is the strongest wavelength of light that our own sun emits - hence, a red sun, giving off red light most strongly, would induce red plant life.

Due to the fact that in order for it to be in the habitable zone, it has to orbit very close to it's sun, this planet is tidally locked - one side always faces the sun, one side always faces away. Thus, the sun is always in the sky - or not - depending on where you are. The days would be marked, then, by the movement of the neighboring white dwarf star through the sky. This also means that the area in which life can propagate is somewhat narrow on this planet, being a ringed band around the middle of the planet.

Thanks to the white dwarf star's gravity pulling and stretching the planet when it's closer, geothermal activity has allowed the planet to develop a thick atmosphere - though still a little thinner than what you'd get on earth. This is what allows some moons in our own solar system to have volcanic activity, is this pushing and pulling known as tidal forces, and this is what makes this work for this planet as well.

Finally, I put a town near a braided river, and put a brick wall on the cliffside to show that intelligent life has developed here. Probably the least likely thing here, but hey, it makes things feel more lively.
