Agreed. The fic probably would have been much better if the author had followed the KISS rule, and stuck with the original premise. The Slenderpony and all the other random stuff that got added in was basically unneeded bloat, and pretty much killed the fic for me.

Yeah. It is basically a rule against feature creep and the like. As I had said, he had interesting premise, and was pulling it off fairly well. I particularly enjoyed the interactions between Dusk and Spike. But then he started jamming in other ideas, each of which could probably have supported a fic on their own, and the story got lost in a tangle of mashed together plot threads and random memes.
