Hello everyone,

It's recently been brought to my attention that I am the only remaining moderator participating in this group. I've since contacted the founder, who is no longer active here, but gave me the administrative privileges to bring on new people who wish to keep the group active.

Up until now my responsibilities have only been to moderate submissions to variation 1 and 2, but now that I'm the only one left, we have the opportunity to both resurrect and re-imagine the future of the 100 Themes Challenge.

This is a fresh start.
I think we should take this opportunity to discuss the structure and goals of the group; to make sure it's members are getting a fulfilling experience from their contributions.

What I need first and foremost is to better understand what it is that draws people to the 100 Themes Challenge

For me, it was one of the first encouragements to become more engaged with the community here on DA. This was about a decade ago... Long before groups were a thing, but the idea of working through this list gave me hope that I could really improve my skills and gain better opportunities to interact with other artists here. Of course I only managed to complete 4 or 5, and they're so old now it's a little embarrassing to look at them, but I think this challenge still has the potential to inspire and encourage others. The nostalgia I had attached to the 100 Themes Challenge is the reason I joined as a moderator some years back and now I suppose it's up to me to try and help bring it back.

What I think we really need is not simply a new team to fill in some old positions, but people to help design a more durable system.

Therefore I'd like to merely begin a conversation for now. I'd really appreciate it if you guys would share your thoughts on the situation, and what you'd like to see moving forward.

There are a couple items on some of the current lists that I find troubling, and I want to make sure there's nothing in there that would make someone really uncomfortable. Unfortunately I can't edit any particular entry and must instead replace it entirely, but I also don't want to do anything of my own accord that'll upset this group's members.

So I'm looking to resurrect this group in accordance to both its original intentions and the wishes of its remaining community.

The founder stated that at its core, this group should promote "the hope and desire to inspire and prompt those who seek it". And I agree with that sentiment.

Finally, if this message really inspired you to get more involved, I'm also open to notes about what you would like to be involved in, and what sorts of responsibilities you're willing to take on.

Thanks!

I made it halfway through the challenge , though there was a period of doing nothing for it :shame: due to lack of ideas, motivation, too many ideas without the ability to decide.. the usual I think.

I started it back in 2012 as a friendly competition to see who could finish sooner. Sadly, I won due to a deactivated account. that aside, I still wish to finish the list of variation 2 one day and maybe take on a new one afterwards
One thing that I found a little bit annoying in the beginning, when motivation was high and so was the creative output: the submission was limited to 3 pieces a week. Do you knwo why and do you think it might be useful to change that? Because at least in my case, it was a bit frustrating that I had to keep an eye out for the pieces I still needed to submit as soon as the 7 days were over. Of course, that had changed, but well, maybe I'm not the only one who felt a little braked by the limit?

I'm thinking back to earlier this year, and I might be able to keep up with a process like that during the summer but as soon as the semester starts it becomes extremely difficult for me to keep up with submissions.

I'm sorry, but it will have to remain 3 per week.
Tho I'll keep this in mind overΒ the coming months as thingsΒ things level out.

I have been watching this group for awhile because I want to eventually do this.
I would help but I'm not sure what I could do to help.

you could moderate submissions to one of the variations. submissions are pretty slow at the moment due to inactivity, but if interest reignites we'll need more moderators

Hmmm well I might be able to help with that.. What kind of moderation?
I know my friend has been doing this challenge for a great while.

basically you would keep an eye out for submissions to a certain variation and make sure they include their corresponding theme in either the title or description before being approved

Well, this is embarrassing, DA says I am at my max limit for admin positions and won't allow me to accept another.

I've been meaning to restart the challenge from where I stopped (day 2). That may be a great opportunity to do it.

Oh boy. Come to think of it, I started this challenge in... 2006? I never completed it, but I still think that, someday, I'll draw more of its themes...
