Description You walked through the airport, entering through the main doors. There was a sign on the wall that showed which planes had made it here, which were boarding, which were already in the air, an which were scheduled to leave. You looked at one plane number in particular, coming in from Florida. It had been years. But it's not like he was married to anyone, so he didn't have any particular reason to come back. At least, you think that was the reason it had been so long.

I was scheduled to land in five minutes. You nodded to yourself, walking calmly toward the gate they would come through. You sat in the chairs outside it, sighing. You crossed your arms and legs, trying not to look to excited. The other families that were waiting for the plane around you were conversing, ecstatic to see their loved ones back from war. You put a shaking hand up and wiped your forehead. You glanced at your watch.

Two minutes.

You heard the intercom come on over the noise of the bustling travelers. It announced an airplanes arrival. The gates behind you opened, several men and women came out, all decked out in their military uniforms. One in particular lagged behind. He always did like to take things easy. He knew that no one, not family, would be waiting for him. That's why you didn't tell him you were going to be there, you wanted to surprise him. Now you weren't sure he would appreciate it, and neither did you. He was looking at the ground, instead of with a high head like his fellow passengers. You stood, in a nervous cold sweat, and hid your shaking hands behind your back. You stood in front of his path. When he looked up, and your eyes met, he cracked out the grin he always showed you. You smiled back. He dropped his luggage, and you hugged each other.

"Welcome back, soldier." you said in his ear. He chuckled and pulled back. You could feel his arms shaking as his voice quivered, tears of happiness in his eyes. He breathed a huge sigh, and breathed again.

"Glad to be home."
