Description
I see them out in town, always ahead of me on the street. It's usually just getting dark, so I'm usually blind by that time, but I recognize them by their figures. They surprise me. Every day, they surprise me. They always seem to be dressed in something different, in something new. They always seem to be so cool, so far away like that, with the dying sun before them. I'm sure they are never blinded like me; they must have something for that too. I've always seen them. They consist of one girl, and it's always a different one. I wonder where the other girls go to. Then there are three other guys, but one changes, while the other two are always the same, and sometimes, it's only the two of them and no third guy. It's how I recognize them. One guy, it seems, is always changing, becoming slim one day, fat the next. But his hair never changes, and he always seems to have two little horns on his head. And in his shadow, I can see he has what looks like a toy costume tail. It's very interesting. He always tries to get one of the others in his group to do something, or tries to drag them places.
The other guy, though, seems to always be the same. He looks like he crawled out of bed, maybe in a billowing nightgown, but he always walks to much like he is…loved. Not confident, but so sure of himself. He always seems to ignore the other guy. He tries to guide the others in the group, the boy, or the girl, or maybe both, sometime just one of them, and tries to get them to keep going toward the setting sun. Most of the time though, the other man, the one with the tail, gets them to turn around and walk back toward me. I never see their faces though. Because usually, right after they turn around the sun sets again. It never seems to rise. It always goes from setting, to night. And other times, when the other man with the nightgown, if they keep going, they seem to disappear over the horizon, and suddenly, its day.
I see them out in town, always ahead of me on the street.
