The depicted seashell I found on the beach near Skagen that summer. The drawing was made indoors a couple of months later. Among the wonders of nature this kind of seashell is one the most breathtaking with its pure whiteness and its beautifully undulating forms.
Structuring the surroundings of this fantastic object I have tried to give the shell some kind of mystical cosmic appearance transforming it into a “cosmic seashell” belonging in a “cosmic sea”. In this way I have tried to make the drawing evocative for the spectator’s imagination. - Imagine that you hear the remote roar of that cosmic ocean from the shell!
