Description .......The inspiration for this image came from the time I spent living in Alaska's "bush"...out in the wilderness on the Tundra.

I used to attend a little church that sat in the middle of nowhere and it was so beautiful walking to it at night!.......17 hour render in Bryce 5, with post in Painter and Photopaint. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all and best wishes for a happy and creative New Year!!

Very nice. Was worth the long wait for that render. hehe some of the coolest I've seen done with Bryce is some of your stuff and that's no lie. This one is right up there among the best imo. Great work and Happy Holidays to you

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! this takes my breath away, Anita. You do such amazing work with Bryce! I've never seen anything like this. Do you create each little part of the picture separately? There are so many nice details in this.

Awwwww...thank you so much Jean...what a nice thing to say! I truly appreciate your most generous comments. Each part of the scene is a model that you create or find/buy. I make all my own trees almost exclusively - and most of my plants/flowers....sometimes before I do a scene and sometimes as I go along. I make all my own terrains and mountains and that can be time-consuming and frustrating when you can't get it to look like you want it or in the place you want it!

Most 3D landscape artists do not make their own models but buy them/download freebies. Most of my models were downloaded as freebies when I first started with Bryce in 1997. Nearly all of them came as just gray shapes, which then textures must be added to....buildings can take ages because each little construction piece can take a different texture and they are built much like conventional buildings with all the parts and pieces. The house in "Gramma's Thanksgiving" image took me days to do....there are over a hundred pieces in it (meshes).....drove me nuts! Then on some of the images, I import them into Painter and further texturize (paint) animals, snow, etc some of the time.

I add them.....one piece at a time.....sort of like building blocks....I just keep building the scene It's a VERY tedious and time consuming process.....at least for me! It's kind of hard to explain.......This Christmas landscape took so many hours that I lost track...but it's well over 200. I worked on it off and on for about 8 months. Thank you for asking....I've spent almost 9 years trying to "master" this program and I had no one to teach me and started from scratch. There's still features I don't use or know how to do....I just keep learning a little at a time. The more "mature" brain is simply....slower! lol Hope this helps explain a little bit!

Thanks for the excellent explanation, Anita. Just from my limited experience with Blender, I understand how exceedingly difficult it is to create each part of an image. I guess I thought Bryce was more user friendly, but I can see it's still very tedious, hard work. You are not alone! Every 3D person I've talked to has told me of the hundreds of hours they've spent, and how difficult it is to just make one thing in the picture. I guess that's why there are so few 3D modelers in DA!

I really appreciate all the work, sweat, and love you put into your works, Anita. Your stuff is the best!!!

Thank you for such kind, inspirational words Jean.....that's what keeps us all going, as artists. I remember doing some internet research on Bryce in about 1999 - after getting so frustrated, trying to learn some things about it....and I ran across a film-makers's site. He said he used Bryce for the animation in his films (yes you can - but I haven't even tried that) and that it took him five years to learn Bryce...and he was still learning! I just sort of sat back and went, "Oh my....." I knew I had a long way to go, but being the stubborn, persistent sort, when I love what I'm doing....I have just kept going on it!!

After my surgery and a decent recovery period, I hope to be able to do a lot more Bryce and continue to learn things about it...it's kind of like peeling all the layers off an onion...and there are tons of layers! Thanks again for all your encouraging words!! Hugzzzzzz!

You're very welcome. You're stubborn in a good way, Anita. Persistence is what you need with almost any kind of art! I'm glad you stuck with it all these years, because your work is really the big payoff! Hope you can get back into 3D soon after surgery...but if not, try to teach lefty a few things, too!

I haven't posted there in a long time.. I check in on the free stuff daily.. I rarely bother with my gallery over there. It's an ok site, but not worth paying for a sub and the size restrictions are a pain without one.. I like dA much better.
