Description
He should've been dead. He should've either been ground up into minced pieces of crimson or vaporized into a fine red mist once the ruby had extracted itself, leaving him to the whims of the Phantom Ruby on what to do with his body. Seeing no use for the shell that was once its host, he was simply cast aside, violently thrown out of the altered reality he had once been trapped in.

Alone, bloodied, broken, he staggered out of the city torn by the war he had been partially responsible for, desperate to make it back to Eggman's lab in the hopes of being treated, but the trauma he sustained was just too much to overcome, and he collapsed to the ground, eventually dragging himself to a felled log in which he propped his head up and stared back at the billowing towers of black smoke that tainted the sky in the distance, waiting for death to welcome him into its open arms.

The last words he had heard from Sonic about him lacking heart, soul, and the bonds of friendship, sat heavy on his mind. At one time, he had all of it, only to forsake it. He deemed it fitting that he would now die alone.

But before he would close his eyes, perhaps for the final time, he swore he saw a figure in the distance approaching...
