Wows. There is so much depth in this - BEAT THAT HEARTLESS! (yes, I know it's not a Heartless but still I have to make things work in my simplistic terms) Anyways, yes, I olove the perspective. Not really much else I can say, hehe.

Yeahhhh, the resemblence can't be avoided, huh? ^^ Given how diverse the Heartless race already was in the first game, I wouldn't be surprised if they cornered the market on every monster design that just happens to be shadowy + sports glowy eyes.
My only regret is I wasn't able to flip the image horizontally (because we read images left to right, subconsciously at least) - two of the characters have asymmetrical designs and I wasn't about to compromise that.

Heh. Whenever someone hands me a graphic novel or something I'm always like, "Which way do I read it?" I did that with a book once and the person looked at me and said, "Well here, in ENGLAND, we lead left to right!" Not a Japan fan clearly

You know you've been reading TOO much manga when, not only do you want to read right to left, but you want all the speech bubbles to be taller rather than wider.

Ahaha, yeah the values do suck. XD The only reason I haven't changed it yet is because I'm working off my laptop which is *super* backlit. As soon as I get my desktop going again, I'll have a clear idea of what everyone else is seeing.
Dahhh, the sword mang ISH WO-MANG. ::really not sure where he's confusing people on this:: >.0

I hate that I can never do comments for great pieces like this justice since I have no technical skill, but I do believe I will sing your praises anyway.
I am absolutely enthralled by the "Sea of Rage". Your monster is just so... fearsome and that sweeping arm to crush the heroes is wonderfully rendered. CRUSH! CRUSH! CRUSH! And I like how the fighters' designs are a mix between the eras past and present, though you may have not intended it. The lack of facial features really brings the attention to the piece as a whole, rather than focusing on just the creature or heroes. And I like that.

I really like the movement in the beast's arms. The texture in the water on the floor is good too.
I can't help but think that taking a sword to fight a water creature seems a bit stupid. And her hat looks positively gravity defying. The back girls shoes look oddly big too.
But damn impressive, obviously.

......the girl in the back you speak of is a boy. O.o (not that it's fair since they designed him plenty girly). Big shoes for performing mean kicks ...and um extreme forelengthening? Yeah.

Is impressive, and my attention was such to the chars at right that I did not figured out the big one at right... it also looks quite hiding in the shadows... and the details, like the walls and so, are quite defining the mood of a death-and-life fight ^^ Awesome!

That's the tough part about being an Iron Eren; you pretty much have to charge straight into the enemy sometimes. ;D
(Ah well. Tales fans are picky about what they like. And by picky I mean they always just ignore Legendia. )

No, I meant, tales fans would like it. I do hear that recent tale games wise, Legendia is the least liked, but not hated. I personally liked it. I only played Phantasia, Abyss, and Legendia. Always wanted to play Symphonia, Destiny, and Rebirth though. May get to play Vesperia, if it comes to PS3 one day.

This is really nice, I can see all the effort you put into it. But the white highlights just bug the absolute shite out of me. xD; Only shiny (oily, steely, wet) things have white on them. Everything else is its own colour, because that's the colour it reflects under light.
The soft brush you used for water spray and what's coming down the walls makes it look like dust, not water. At the bottom where you've used a texture, it looks much, much better.
The dude jumping in the middle doesn't appear to be jumping at the sea monster, he feels inbetween the monster and the foreground guy. Is that intended? Something is pushing the monster into the background very well - probably the blurring. Jumping dude is too sharply painted, or maybe he needs less colour on him to push him back a bit. Conversely the monster could be made clearer.
The glass roof is well done, trying to draw that myself would have broken my brain. x__X
I like your little logo/signature. xD;
To be honest I was waiting for somebody else to critique, but it wasn't happening. I get the idea that you get plenty of crit from your school though. Sorry if it's a bit much.

GAH! So many mistakes. ;;;
Bleh, I just hope you know all those things that were bugging you now were bugging me for hours and hours at a time too. So nyah.
at least allow me to defend myself... XD
The intense, white rim-light is something called "God Lighting". It's considered do-able if you're dealing with a whiter-than-white light source that negates the local color of the lit subject matter.
The water coming down the the BG isn't important, so I tried to breeze through that (and if it were dust, it wouldn't fall so quickly down, but rather dissipate in cloud form)
The dude (Senel) jumping in the middle used to be MUCH worse off because I wasn't putting enough atmospheric perspective on him then. I think considering how quickly he diffuses into the BG already, I've cut my losses for the most part. So yes, it *was* intentional.
The foreground guy is a girl (Chloe).
The monster... yeah, I'm working off an existing design (and a really vague one at that). I tried to give it a lot of unrealistic rimlighting (which I'm sure you spotted) just so it'd stand out from the BG at all.
The glass roof is a photo I imported and tweaked. XD;;; But I could have easily spent the extra 4 hours drawing it from scratch. ~.~
....haha. I'm glad my sig is winning people over (including my super-critical older brother) XD
*shrug* Hey, it's HARSH, BRUTAL, COLD-HEARTED criticism (such as your's) that got me as far as I have. ^_^; So... thanks~!

zii In reply to 47ness [2008-04-29 06:08:19 +0000 UTC]
Weeeeell even a professional who'd been working for years would have some problems (surely) with a picture of this scope. A girl? I thought she looked a bit odd for a boy. The roof photo blends in really well. xD
I don't like giving out brutal criticism :C It's earned me too many bitchings. And I never get any myself... ugh, I just wish I had the time to try making pictures at all any more. The game art course I'm in is dropping a lot of its old 2D parts (like.. life drawing) in favour of more 3D practice. Which is good for most people in the course, but not me. Not that I don't enjoy it. It just eats up all my time.
That light still bugs me despite your explanation, though. I'm sure it's a composition/overall contrast thing, but I can't say because I know crap-all about it.
π: 0 β©: 1
47ness In reply to zii [2008-04-29 07:33:50 +0000 UTC]
Well, as far as the standards of my school go, you went about it the right way (i.e. explaining what you liked first before pointing out what could still be fixed and why) Most of my classmates go straight to what's wrong which is a bit of a no-no, esp. when you're out in the professional field. Granted, we artists are the ones who will get criticized by people who might not know crap-all about art. XD; But even clients will understand it's all about respect and not outright attacking people for no good reason other than to stroke your ego.
(.........which kinda makes me wonder how well a certain young Canadian artist would ever fare in the job market... XD XD XD)
I say just be yourself (or at least a nicer version of yourself) and people will appreciate you most for that.

A lot of people on dA are just pansies I guess. >> *wonders who the person is*
If I have nothing good to say (to accompany my prodding), I say nothing at all. Which sounds right, and common sense, but then I think of all the pictures that I look at that I don't comment on, and I feel like an awful person. x: Not that I don't like anything. I'm just lazy and need to cut down my watch list.

Oh? I haven't been in her gallery for ages, I reported one of her friend's slightly too risquΓ© fanarts and the whole gang cusses me out and decides to block me.
I just keep remembering that one contortion fetish artist flipping out and threatening to sue because somebody did a tiny little paintover as a critique. I see that happening on art forums all the time, it seems like a normal industry practice (between artists) so it just made her look really touchy and unaccepting of good advice.

She's... still drawing Beyblade stuff (guess which pairings XD)
Ohoho. We were just talking about blacklisting today at work. You have an obligation to own up to your work as well as the company that hired you do to said work. That is, if you're at a job interview and you claim a studio work entirely as your own, then you'll be in hot water and be talked badly of in the industry, by the interviewing company along with the original studio that hired you.
It wouldn't be so scary if only I'd at least know when I'd be screwing up or not. @_@;
On a side note, creepy fetish artists being bitchy = HUMOR. Y'know, because they have so much to be proud of... XD;

zii In reply to 47ness [2008-04-29 09:33:49 +0000 UTC]
Well, saying who you did a particular work for seems a given, since the concept of the work isn't always yours... there are people who claim the whole thing? xD Wow. I'd have thought letting people know who you worked for previously would only help you.

47ness In reply to zii [2008-04-29 10:36:44 +0000 UTC]
I think as far as not telling people exactly who you were dealing with is a matter of waiting until the so-called confidentiality agreement (which can last as long as 3 years) is lifted. i.e. If you're working on a highly classified project and aren't allowed to leak information about it ...in other words- so that the parent company can maximize its own profits at your expense.

Yeah, this was done from beginning to end in Photoshop. There's a lot of tools to learn (more than one class can teach, I think)
