Highmates are rare xenohumans shaped for pleasure and designed to love, and only love. Due to this, they are often taken advantage of and scorned by society. So as a highmate born into the cutthroat slums of Herder Alliance's underworld, Ostro was inevitably sold to its black markets at a young age.

One afternoon, Ostro woke in his cage, ragged and malnourished, to the backs of a pair of outsiders browsing the stalls nearby. The short man, aside from his bright orange mechanical arm, was largely unremarkable, while his bald companion was overdressed and stood out horribly against the grime of Herder's back markets.

The people around the two gave them a wide berth, and it wasn't until the bald one turned that Ostro truly saw why: where his face should've been was a blank white slate - the visage of an angel...or a demon.

Zero noticed the highmate child's gaze of wonder, and silently regarded him in his cage for awhile before greeting his slaver. After a few exchanges, Ostro was brought to the Ark, where he was freed and recruited into the colony.

Trained by Zero as a communications specialist, Ostro learned to handle external matters such as trade negotiations, faction relations, and recruitment. With a highmate's high affinity in dealing with people, Ostro quickly proved his worth in his new role, such that Zero later gifted him implants to complement his innate psychic abilities as well as a beautifully crafted golden cybernetic eye called an Aurum.

However, Ostro didn't come without problems early on. Due to a highmate's natural ability to psychically bond with a person of interest, Ostro reflexively established a bond with Shigeko, who at the time was Diver's wife. This caused quite the rift, but the couple tried to make the marriage work until finally splitting years later on more or less good terms.

Now Ostro spends his days maintaining the Ark with Shigeko, and often travel together to other colonies for business trips and trades.
