If you read this, would you know it was about you? Would you even think twice?
Or would you assume it's just something I happened to write?
Would you look beyond the words? Read between the lines?
Ever ask yourself, "What was the purpose of saying that? Why?"
Or would you read over it once, never giving it another thought?
Would you realize it's your eyes that this poem sought?
Ever figure out that I'm pleading for your hand?
Or possibly try and understand?

When you read this, will you know it's about you? Decide to think twice?
Or will you think nothing more than "Good job, it's nice?"
Will you examine the words? Read more than just the lines?
Maybe say to yourself, "I wonder what that meant. I wonder why?"
Or will you only read it once, not bothering to think about it?
Will you notice what I'm not willing to admit?
Maybe discover the comfort I get when I hold your hand?
Or finally understand?
