In Depth

Observant

Rhakit is a bird of great intellect, which is par the course for others of his kind. He has learned early on that the world is a dangerous place for birds, and that in order to survive even one day longer, he had to be smarter than he was one day earlier. Rhakit achieves this by hiding and observing situations from afar, high up and out of danger. He collects information and stores it away for later use, and he believes that no piece of intel is truly useless as all is worth something to someone.

Confident

This is a bird who knows his own worth. He thinks very highly of himself and his skills, and no one can tell him otherwise. Rhakit simply exudes assurance, which he can use to embolden and encourage those he considers his friends.

Knowlegeable

Rhakit goes wherever the wind takes him, which means he's learned a great deal about his environment and surroundings. There aren't many things that could scare or surprise him, and his wide array of knowledge makes him a valued companion and informant. Mischievous

Like the typical magpie, Rhakit enjoys a bout or two of mischief-making. He may not always be direct when giving an answer, and may sometimes even flat out lie if it means he'll get a good laugh out of it. As a bird, he's fairly hard to catch and thus hard to pin down if one of his schemes go awry. Conversely, the ones who stick around Rhakit long enough may find that this playfulness can make him fun to be around.

Crafty

This magpie is always planning something. He can be open about his plots, or not. His goals can be as simple as getting more food, or more convoluted. Whatever it may be, his mind is always running. When his goals align with another's, he proves to be a valuable ally. Manipulative

Rhakit enjoys being in charge of a situation. His size causes many to think him harmless or unimportant, and he doesn't mind if it means they will let their guard down around him. Rhakit knows that there is more than one way to win a battle, and his favorite techniques are ones that have little to do with fighting or getting his claws dirty. He lets his words do all of the work for him, and breaking free from his web of deceit is usually more difficult than entering it.

Selfish

Rhakit takes care of himself first and foremost. As a bird, he feels he can't afford to stick his neck out for others the way wolves always seem to be doing. He would much rather look out for his own feathers, and would almost always choose to save himself if the situation called for it. Everything he does is to benefit himself in some way, though he can disguise it as kindness or altruism if it makes his plans go more smoothly.

Hedonistic

Rhakit is all about the finer things in life. If something shiny or interesting catches his eye, he just has to have it. He doesn't get why some others would want to giveaway what they have instead of enjoying it themselves. For this reason, even if his other intentions are well hidden, Rhakit is usually and rightfully pegged as shallow.

:: History ::

Rhakit was hatched an ordinary magpie in an ordinary nest. His early life was all about him learning survival skills from his parents and a couple of older siblings from an earlier clutch. From them he learned to search and scavenge, to take only what was necessary. He also learned a great deal about humans as his family's nest was located in close proximity to a city. The humans had many loud and shiny devices and trinkets, but rather than scare him away like it did others, Rhakit became more interested in them. Soon he was venturing out on his own to watch the humans, sometimes at his own risk when he drew too close. Rhakit saw that humans, despite having weird fur and no claws or fangs to speak of, had every creature at their beck and call. Some animals were literally pulled along on thick leather strings, made to do tricks for small treats. Rather than disgust him, the young magpie was fascinated, even impressed. He'd seen humans fight other humans and sometimes other animals. He knew how easily they bled. Even so, they were the masters of whatever domain they laid eyes on. This encouraged Rhakit; they were proof that there were ways for disadvantaged creatures to make comfortable lives for themselves.

Excited by this new way of thinking, he took news of all he learned back to his family. Unsurprisingly, they didn't want to hear any of it. Humans were strange and unpredictable, and that made them very dangerous. Rhakit argued that maybe if magpies also acted strange and unpredictable, then they wouldn't need to fear larger animals or rely on them for food. This back-and-forth went on for weeks, made worse the more time Rhakit spent in the city. Frustrated, the magpie decided to relax by taking some time away from the rest of his flock. It was good practice for when he had to eventually leave, anyway. Rhakit ended up being away for longer than he'd thought, and began to miss his family. Upon returning to his home territory, however, he was swept up in a fierce summer storm. The high winds and driving rain disoriented him and blew him far off course, right in the middle of a wildlife sanctuary. Rhakit, after regaining his energy, flew for days in every direction, wishing nothing more than to be with his flock again. He had no luck finding anyone or anything familiar. He was stuck, and in a place where his knowledge of human contraptions was all but useless.

It took time, but the now fully-grown magpie adjusted to his environment and came to learn a lot about the environment and the animals who lived there. He would miss his time in the city, but if he had learned anything there, it was that all animals had a chance to be more than what nature intended. This was advice he would use for the rest of his days as he carved out a niche and a name for himself in this home away from home.
