Natasha did drink the ale that had been brought to her, but it failed to quench her thirst. That was the problem that she was encountering quite often in recent times. It wasn't long ago that she felt that she was in a world where everyone and everything was gigantic. Now she felt the opposite as everything around her was less than half the size that it had been before.
From her point of view, it was as though everything was made for a small child rather than a woman like herself. She had also noticed just how nervous people were around her. They could tell that she wasn't from the giant clan but they also didn't think she was human either. Thanks to the actions of Diane, anything related to giants was seen with some fear and genuine concern.
It was a miracle that Natasha had even been able to get into the tavern. It was a tight fit for her through the door but after some contorting she the challenge was complete. But now thanks to her great size, it also meant that it would take a lot more food to satisfy her. Thankfully, she wasn't on the same level as Diane in that regard. But it was still enough to cost her a fortune.
The only person who wasn't afraid of her was the woman sitting across from her. Instead, Nadine did feel a great amount of guilt that she had put her friend and fellow Holy Knight in. It was her spell that had caused Natasha to become the towering figure that she was now and also because of her that she couldn't be shrunk down.
"There goes another chunk of our money," said Natasha as she had finished drinking the ale that had been brought to her. She placed the empty cup on the table in front of her and gave out a sigh. "I'm sorry about that."
"Don't worry about that," replied Nadine who didn't think that it was her colleague that should be the one apologising. "Everything's going to go back to normal before we know it. I promise."
"I hope so. This is whole thing is getting more than annoying for me. Do you know how many times I've bruised my head because I struck something?"
"I-I don't know." This was only causing the short mage to experience even more guilt. However, she still sat there and continued to listen to her.
"Thirty-seven times. The fact that I don't have a concussion is nothing short of a miracle. And it's all because of Diane that this has happened to me."
"E-Err, I'm the one who cast the spell that made you so big." She could remember what had taken place right there and then. After her magic had been recharged, she had attempted to enlarge the tiny Natasha back to her normal size. Unfortunately, the spell was too potent and thus, the tiny woman had become a giant in her own right.
"I know but at the end of the day, it was because Diane decided to be a monstrous threat that led to this!" There was clearly anger and frustration in her voice as she wanted to inflict some kind of revenge on the elongated giantess. But at this moment in time, such a thing seemed to be impossible. "If I ever get my hands on her I'llβ¦" She gave a sigh as she knew that even at her enlarged size that she would stand no chance against Diane in any kind of battle. The elongated giantess was simply too big.
"I promise that I'll find a way to shrink you back to normal. Even if it takes me every moment of my life, I will find a way!"
As Nadine remembered back to how this had happened, she also thought about how Natasha had been living a week at a few inches in height. Tasks that seemed simple to her now were herculean challenges. Doing something as straight forward as walking up a flight of stairs became like trying to scale a mountain.
The wait for the magic to recharge within Nadine had felt much longer than it should have been. However, the moment did come when the spellcaster was finally able to cast a growth enchantment on her colleague. Unfortunately, whatever happiness they had been experiencing was turned to worry when Natasha stopped growing at a little over twice her original size. At first this hadn't seemed to be a problem whatsoever.
This only led to further worry when Nadine had attempted to cast a shrinking spell on her. The spell itself was casted to perfection, but unfortunately it had yielded to results whatsoever. The question of whether Nadine had the magic to cast the spell wasn't the issue. It was the simple fact that Natasha had been immune to it.
"I doubt it," replied Natasha as she gave another loud sigh that could be heard throughout the tavern. "For some reason, shrinking spells don't work on me anymore. It's very annoying if you ask me."
"Y-Yeah, I can understand." There was still a hint of guilt from her. She did appreciate that Natasha didn't blame her, but at the end of the day. She still felt that the situation was her own fault.
There was something that she had heard about which was rare but possible. There were some people in the world who had resistance to magic. It was likely that after experiencing the shrinking spell, Natasha was now immune to it. Much like if she were struck with another growth spell, it would likely not work for her.
It was an ability that many would find useful but in this case, it was more than annoying in this situation. Now it meant that most likely, the towering woman was going to be stuck at her current size for the rest of her life. There was a chance that a particularly powerful spellcaster could reverse the effects. But that was something that was very unlikely to happen.
Suddenly Natasha did see something grey rush across the ground not too far away from her. It was something that more than caught her by surprise. A small creature, nothing more than a common rat ran within her field of vision. Almost immediately, the towering woman screamed in terror and instinctively went to get up to her feet.
Before she could reach her full height, her head struck the ceiling above but because she had stood up with such force. Rather than her head simply slamming against the ceiling, it completely broke through and she could see the sky above her. She could also see the town around her and a bird that had been flying away after the suddenness of her appearance. Small fragments of the tavern roof were in her hair and she did have to admit that what she had just experienced was painful.
From the tavern below, her actions had gone far from unnoticed from the rest of the patrons within. The serving woman in particular was looking up with a combination of amazement and horror. She was amazed that Natasha was so tall that her head had been able to go clear through the ceiling. But horrified when she realised that to repair the damage would cost money that she simply didn't have.
Moments later, Natasha did crouch down and there seemed to be a couple of tears rolling down her face. This was thanks to the pain that she had experienced from what she had done and also the embarrassment of it all. All she could do was look at her concerned companion who hadn't moved from where she was sitting.
"Natasha are you alright?" asked Nadine who feared that her colleague had suffered a great injury of some kind.
"T-That hurt," replied Natasha as some dust from the hole in the ceiling fell onto her. Her dazed state from the impact had made her ability to think for the moment limited. It would take her a small amount of time to fully comprehend what had happened.
Before either of them could make any kind of decision, they were soon met by the serving woman who was far from pleased by what had happened. Angry shouts from her made one thing perfectly clear to the pair. They were to leave the establishment and never return. But after seeing the rat run across the tavern floor, Natasha would very likely never want to come back in the first place.
Before long, the two Holy Knights found themselves walking away from the tavern and still far from happy with everything that had happened. But there was something else that Nadine did find annoying as well. Thanks to their difference in size, she was finding it very difficult to keep up with her now much larger companion.
Even before Natasha had found herself at her current stature, she had still been a very tall woman. But now, it was simply more than Nadine could handle as she was practically running just to keep up with her. This was something that hadn't gone unnoticed by the walking giantess.
With one swift motion, she felt two large hands grab onto her and suddenly lift her up as if she were but a small child. Before she could say another word, she felt herself be placed on the shoulders of Natasha. This was something that she did find a little embarrassing but she did have to admit that she enjoyed the higher vantage point that it did give her. Also, now she didn't have to worry about keeping up with her gigantic companion.
"I still could have walked," said Nadine as she wanted to preserve at least a small amount of her pride.
"Sure, you could have," replied Natasha. "But do you have any idea what we're going to do?" There was a hint of desperation in her voice as she spoke. "There's something we have to do to stop this insanity."
"Actually, there is one thing I am thinking of." She was thinking as she spoke as she did want to know what it was. "It's a long shot and potentially risky, but there's a chance that it could work. If it does, then we can stop Diane and maybe one day, we could be seen as the greatest heroes that Britannia has ever known."
