Little does Paisley know, Goobie is really a benign globular byproduct of molecular nanotechnology called Gray Goo.
Gray Goo is basically self-replicating robots that will consume all biomass on Earth while building more of themselves. It's one of the many hypothetical end-of-the-world scenarios and Goobie's creator is trying to invent it. As a cover up for the scientist's illegal engineering of the Gray Goo, he's built an ice cream facility above his lab.
One day, he accidentally used a vital element from his new ice cream product in the recipe for Gray Goo and the result was underwhelming. Nothing formed except for a small puddle of blue waste. Frustrated, the scientist smashed the glass tube in his hand and injured himself. Drops of his blood were absorbed by the nanotechnology in the blue waste.
And from this mixture, Goobie became sentient and alive.
