I've studied a lot of abstract art. But one thing I noticed is that abstract art lacks translucence. I did some research into stained glass design and how that could be painted. Tried experimenting for a few hours until I came across a design that I liked, which had some realistic "cracks" and "rust" etched into the glassy framework.
