Another bit of concept art for a story I have been working on. Clearly, this is a fantasy-- but I try not to just blatantly rip off from any pre-existing novel. I have incorporated things like elves, gargoyles-- and also dragons, vampires (non-sparkle version), werewolves, etc. --But they have been twisted and reworked.

the traditional Gargoyle (originating from the French word "gargouille", meaning "gullet" or "throat") is a winged, demonic humanoid species that turn to stone (in one way or another, often it is sunlight), and viciously protect the home they loom over.

I take it a step further-- My gargoyles were victims of a failed practice of transmutation. Not much is known of the people they once were, other than they were a cult following a ritualistic and primordial version of transmutation magic. Some time during their history, the cult experienced a major accident which cursed them to become the creatures you now see today; a howling demonic creature. These creatures are usually within their statue-like cell, but when the Magic (the energy of the world around you, think earth-spirits an you'll be fine) around them has been depleted they shed out of their prison-- only mutating back when the Magic is at an extremely high concentration, and hit with harsh ultra-violet light.
