Description

Carmine (left) and their sister Callow (right), the two heirs of the Greatest Empire There Ever Was (no lies no propaganda 100% truth coming straight from the Empress' mouth)

Being of dire wolf descent, both of them are monstrous creatures in comparison with the rest of the factions filled with smaller timber wolves. Their considerable strength and powerful jaws have debilitated more than a few troops, until their Mother enforced a no bite policy. Now, they can only play rough with each other. And soon, one of them will be left companionless, with the weight of heirdom pressing on her childish shoulders.

Carmine was designed by Louaseau . I've struggle with applying their design to this angle, namely for their spiky bi-colored mane, and to get the angle right for their hip dysplasia (consequences of being an aberration of nature, a dire wolf hybrid). The glowy sepia tone of the drawing erases their markings a bit too much to notice, but we did put stripes on their back as a call back to thylacines and other extinct animals.

I fought against myself for the entire making of this piece. It was supposed to be a mere sketch at first, but then I wanted to clean it, then challenged myself to make a simple background for it.... And then was dissatisfied with everything and especially the simplicity of the background (and the previous steps...). But I pulled through, and adapted the scene to the specific pleistocene environment in which the heirs grew up rather than being satisfied with drawing generic plains and mountains. I do wish to keep challenging myself artistically and thematically through the depiction of environments, or at the very least, give an ambience to a drawing that is more than "wolf floats on transparent background." I do have a bunch of WIPs lining up and some more ideas, but seeing them through requires so much energy and motivation :c One at a time though, one at a time.
