Lars (human con artist) - Lars witnessed his father's murder at a young age, and the trauma started him down a path of petty crime and substance abuse. Lars's alcoholism and lazy charm belie his immense cunning; he is perceptive and remarkably adept at getting people to believe his lies. Hedonistic and apathetic, he forms few lasting attachments. Lars distrusts all forms of authority and considers the Empire and the Rebel Alliance to be equally dangerous. He is a drifter with no real long-term goals, although he does enjoy collecting souvenirs from our various adventures. A life of fending for himself has left him unsympathetic to any cause other than his own. At this point, he remains with the crew pretty much solely out of his devotion to Jastra. The two of them bonded over their mutual flair for telling tall tales, and they eventually grew to care about each other on a much more significant level. Jastra repaid his friendship by adopting him into her clan, and the pair now consider each other brother and sister. Despite their glaring differences, they operate as an effective team, and there is a real sense of camaraderie and love between them. [Alignment: chaotic neutral]
Jastra (Bothan polymath) - Jastra grew up on equatorial Kothlis, where her mother operated an upscale tourist resort. Her family catered to (and spied on) the rich and powerful, without ever having access to wealth or influence themselves. As a member of a politically disenfranchised clan in a society obsessed with politics, Jastra developed a sense of inadequacy early in life. She left home to seek adventure and to gather allies who might help her achieve her overarching ambition: becoming a member of The Bothan Council. Self-educated and resourceful, Jastra is a jack of all trades, functioning as the crew's slicer, mechanic, doctor, and scholar. Despite her lively sense of humor, she is prone to jealousy and capriciousness. She is loyal to a fanatical degree and is all too willing to excuse the immoral behavior of her favorite few. Jastra is always up for pulling a good ol' fashioned scam with Lars, because it satisfies her mischievous, dastardly side. [Alignment: chaotic good]
Our campaign started a year and a half before the Battle of Yavin. We're currently at 1 ABY, right before the liberation of Mon Cala. Circumstances have changed for Lars and Jastra - he spent six months on the run after getting a bounty on his head, and Jastra achieved her goal of getting a position on the Bothan Council. She's currently the head liaison between the Bothan government and the Alliance. While he's gone back to essentially being homeless, she got together with her longtime love interest, completed her medical certification, and settled into a spacious penthouse apartment. The vast disparity in their life circumstances has not soured their friendship, although Lars has hidden some of his recent troubles because he's afraid of dragging her into his mess.
