Description
there is a great deal of light
that falls on everything
in the hours we lay together,
burning, skin against skin.
i have seen the golden rays
fall in molasses strips over
the floorboards, our legs, your hair.
in the boundless blanket of summer
we found a calling for each other and
if i had known it was as easy
to be with you as it is to breathe,
i would have called to you sooner.

and since then i have found peace
in the nights our skin touches,
even if it is a hair's breadth,
and the strength of your back
i have found in my open heart.
i am a cacti in early summer,
flourishing under those golden rays
and your careful tending hands.
so keep me where the light is,
and i will bloom for you.
