Going along with what I said when uploading Tough Cookie's profile, here's her friend and partner, Syntax.

Syntax is a bookseller living in Canterlot, operating the bookstore 'Trotsworth Tomes'. His signature spell allows him to take written text and translate it into the language of his choosing.

Despite a love of literature and learning, Syntax still felt bored sitting in his shop all day, so when his close friend Tough Cookie invited him to be her companion in treasure-hunting, he readily agreed. He and Cookie didn't always come out of their expeditions with a physical treasure to claim, but to Syntax, the excitement of the adventure itself, combined with new historical discoveries in the places they visited, is more than enough to satisfy him.

Syntax is a stoic, level-headed, and intellectual pony. He is not only a skilled polyglot, able to understand and speak many different languages, but incredibly verbose as well. This comes with the side-effect of saying more than one, usually Cookie, feels needs to be said, and he often bemoans having to restate himself in simpler terms. He also possesses a dry wit, often throwing sarcastic remarks at Cookie, usually in reference to her figure or her rash nature, which Cookie herself isn't slow in returning with a retort. These repartees between them is proof of the strong bond between the two friends. Despite not being related by blood, he is also close with Cookie's niece, Pastel, and is also devoted to his loyal young shop assistant, Paige.

When not minding his shop or accompanying Cookie on adventures, Syntax enjoys reading, playing cards, and listening to music.
