Throughout most of his early life Kirby lived in isolation. Without any real sort of family structure or even close companions to rely on and whom he could trust to help him through difficult situations. The most he had were a pair of distant guardians who rarely saw him, and when they did it was only to ensure he was still following in the footsteps of parents he had only ever heard about secondhand, until even they too disappeared entirely. Leaving him behind.

It wouldn't be until he met Reed that he would start to truly open up to someone for the first time in his life. At first they would be nothing more than acquaintances, possibly even minor annoyances to each other, but after a while of journeying together and becoming used to one another, they eventually would grow fond of each other. So much so that Kirby would pass up an opportunity to pursue an official title and offer of employment, in favor of continuing to travel by reeds side. Determined that he could just as easily claim the title he sought by the sweat of his own brow rather than by association with a formal party.

Eventually after many hardships the pair would become practically inseparable. Bound together through thick thin. And Reed would introduce Kirby to the rest of his family, who would waste no time making him feel right at home, as though he had always been one of their own. Proud of their son for having found someone he could open up to, and glad that said person was someone as kind and determined (albeit a bit ridiculous at times) as Kirby. He was one of them now. And from then on, even during the darkest of times, he would never again find himself alone. He would always have a family there to help guide him out into the light once again.
