Description

The Red Weed would have been one of the first things the Saderans would have seen that would herald the arrival of the Martians other than sightings of the Flying Machines. This blood red blight spreading from the Martian landing sites. Their expansion fueled by the many rivers and streams flowing around the Imperial Capital. For when the red weed touched the water, it spread rapidly and with frightening voracity. Faster than the Fighting Machines could march.
Although not dangerous when touched, the red weed clogged irrigation canals, fouled up wells, hid bridges and roads, and killed Crops and Forests. Walking through it was difficult and wagons and carts would get bogged down by these red tendrils. Even beasts of burden would get caught in the tangle. Walking through the red weed was like walking through gigantic drops of blood. Some of Imperial forces that were sent to engage the Martians also found difficulty trying to march through the red creeper. hampering their progress and giving the martians the advantage over their vulnerable positions.
Upon being sighted over the horizon, it would prompt villagers and townspeople to evacuate and seek higher ground. Away from the Martians as their fighting machines would eventually come into view to those who stayed behind. There would be no guarantee of survival at that point.
This same red weed was responsible for the mass exodus from Sadera. Triggering mass hysteria and panic as it was sighted crawling over the walls and through the rivers or even spreading through the aqueducts and bursting from fountains. The Martian machines were spotted not long after.
pictured here is the now abandoned imperial capital being overrun by the red blight. The fighting machines now converted into their Harvester configuration and picking up any unfortunate souls that got left behind in the panic survived being fumigated by the black smoke, or stubbornly refused to leave their homes.
