And I was trying to do and at home photoshoot for someone's clothing line and it didn't work out.. I was trying to get my entire body, and it wasn't working. I really want one of those remotes where you can focus from far away, instead of having to go up to the camera each time :/

Yeah. The remotes aren't that expensive, anymore. The wireless ones are a bit more, but I'd highly suggest one. Or use a timer!
