Painter 9 is great to work with!
I always start with photoshop and then go over to painter9 to finish it and then sometimes back to photoshop, sometimes back and foreward

I took a class in Painter but the teacher was so bad that I wasn't learning anything and dropped it, but it's so cool you can go back and forth between programs!

I do that because you have tools and options you don't have in one of the programs that you do have on the other one.
Maybe you should download some video tutorials from painter, thats how i learned working with painter, sit down, relax and watch the show
