Description From where they stood on the edge of the Lon Lon Plateau, they could see the vast rolling hills of Hyrule field, and the distant Kakariko mountain range. Malon gasped when she saw where he was pointing. She couldn't imagine even scaling a mountain that tall, let alone a volcano that had been precariously active for years. When her father returned from Kakariko, he had mentioned that the locals were convinced it would erupt any day now. Yet Link intended to climb to its summit, and descend inside of it!

The concept of Link pointing out where he would go next to Malon... the summit of Death Mountain... was something I was so excited to do. It was a heavy task for Mickael to undertake, but when he was finished the result was breathtaking. It's very hard to depict the ring of cloud that circulates around the top of Death Mountain, but I think he achieved the realism quite well. We spent weeks looking at clouds and examples of how they could appear in strange shapes in reality before we settled upon this. I hope you guys love it!

NOTE: There are two easter eggs in this pic. Can you find Zora's falls and Kakariko village?!

The Zelda Project is a Los Angeles, CA based group of friends who seek to bring to life the characters, settings, and overall feel of Ocarina of Time through photography and film. Our ultimate goal is to create the characters as they would appear in reality to the best of our abilities, placing them in beautiful sceneries true to their Hyrulean counterparts, and creating elaborate photosets, as well as a film short (coming soon! Stay tuned for our Kickstarter project!).

The Malon costume is a classic remake of my original Malon costume. The skirt, blouse, and scarf are all 100% linen of varying weaves and thicknesses. The costume has been distressed to show wear and tear, assuming that Malon would get dirty if she was working on the ranch all day! The background is a beautiful digital matte painting by Mickael Forrett. Also, to answer the popular question about horse makeup: We painted Big John's legs and tail and ears to have black on them because his coloration wasn't like that. We used horse show touch-up which many people use in horse shows to hide things like scars and imperfections on their horses. Think of it kinda like spray in hair color for humans, but it's made for horses.

This cosplay photo was a huge combined group effort that was a labor of love by friends and fans of the Legend of Zelda series. Combining all aspects of art from photography to matte painting, we wanted to bring the Legend of Zelda to life as best we could in a final presentation. So far this has been incredibly rewarding, and we hope that those of you who view our work are brought a little bit more into the world of Hyrule through our art.

A special thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far! Without all of your support and kindness we wouldn't have been able to make this happen. We only hope that with what we produce, a smile is put on your face!

Will you be taking other pictures besides just Link and Malon? It's not that I don't like it, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of the Zelda project besides just those two.

Even before reading your description, I was holding my laptop up close to my face, desperately searching out Kakariko village, haha. When I was like, seven years old, I remember playing and thinking Kakariko village and the path leading to Death Mountain were the most frightening things ever. I'm pretty sure I would feel just as overwhelmed as Malon does here.
Mickael did suuuuuch an amazing on the painting!! This is just the most gorgeous thing ever! The foreground and background blend so perfectly together; everything just looks so real <3

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. And the cloud...omg it looks so real. Yet so unreal. Augh I don't know, I just love it! Link retired? Oh my xD Who's gonna save the world now? I heard one of your goals was maybe making a movie though, so with no link...well I hope you either get a new model for him or he comes back so you can do this thing. If you still have that as a goal ofc. I just love the whole idea!

This is pretty breathtaking but unfortunately the photoshops are not quite doing it for me :I It is ALMOST very good, but you gotta tell your photoshop guy to not just smooth blend between things with a big soft brush. It's really bumming me out, especially since the rest of the shop job is pretty great, but the bottom of death mountain just kinda fades into the green like a gradient. Real tree lines are super abrupt and have like lumps and breaks and copses and weird scumbling where some trees got a little higher into the rock and others didn't, his just kinda… gently changes colour without any individual break points.

[link]

And like I know you probably ain't gonna change anything because you're done already, or your photoshop guy is going to get offended that I critiqued it or something, but it's something for y'all to remember next time at leastβ€”just that nature doesn't gradiate.

Is there a reason that we don't get to see a Link picture from the front in this series? Thus far, Malon has had a personal portrait and has been shown from the side and the front, but Link has always been with his back to the camera (with the exception of one picture where we can see his profile). I mean, I know the shield looks great and is nice to showcase, but surely you can spare a picture or two where Link has a face! D: I'm hoping that there's at least one full-frontal Link shot in the upcoming ranch shots. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Adella In reply to KohakuRose [2012-10-10 19:51:16 +0000 UTC]

We're replacing this Link with a new one, so it's an easier transition for us to avoid using many photos with his face.

(Also.. in this shoot... he did a really terrible job and made weird stupid faces in a lot of the photos so they were unusable )
