I made a recent minor revelation about perspective. I drew up a diagram--just a small one--of a stick figure and a camera and the angles between the two. So according to what angle the camera is to the subject, one part of the subject will be closer to the camera. In this case, your head is closer to the plane of the camera. I haven't figure it all out yet, lol, but I'm getting there.

As long as you have noting to add and aren't being mean, which I don't think you are. I don't know what your style, if you don't like to "hold a hand" or whatever

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdorkaStock In reply to TheSkaldofNvrwinter [2014-01-21 22:51:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, not mean at all. ^___^;Β  I guess one though I have about it is that things that are closer to the camera are going to be larger, so that helps with showing perspective in poses that are foreshortened.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSkaldofNvrwinter In reply to AdorkaStock [2014-01-22 02:30:50 +0000 UTC]

That was my 'revelation,' as to why perspective happens. But then I thought of does it matter where the camera is? if the angle is the same but it's above the subject will it look different than if it's at mid-level? I guess... It gets VERY confusing: camera angle, camera position, distance...OY VEY

AdorkaStock In reply to TheSkaldofNvrwinter [2014-01-22 02:49:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they all matter. So does the type of lens!

a related question: how tall are you? I'm trying to gather data on several models that are short; where does that shortness come from? is it in the legs or the torso? so I'm trying to figure an "average heads to groin and groin to heels" and try to get a base measurement. This is for a character concept. I want to do a petite, pale skinned fantasy female with black tattoos all over her body, but the point is "petite." I don't have a hard image in my head, but I do know the skin tone and tattoos. So I was wonder about body. Tall and thin...eh. I want to at least put on paper petite. But I have...NO CLUE HOW TO DRAW THAT.

If you draw a short female "by herself" on a piece of paper, do you do something like 3 heads to groin, 3 heads to feet, or 3.5 heads/3 heads?Β

If you draw a short female beside a tall male, do you keep the heads the same--4/4--but make her head slightly shorter to compensate?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdorkaStock In reply to TheSkaldofNvrwinter [2014-01-23 02:21:46 +0000 UTC]

I am 5' 4 3/4"

I think that shortness, or tallness, can come from all of those places. Sometimes you have people that have long torsos, but short legs.

Average human proportion is about the same from the top of head to the groin as it is from the groin to the feet, but you can mess with that balance to get different body types. I always liked looking at this series of images which shows different Olympic athletes adn their body builds: drivensports.com/20110308180/B…

The word 'petite' to me doesn't necessarily speak only to height, though it does imply shortness. In an image of herself alone though, height wouldn't matter too much since that's relative. Instead I think in that context, petite would imply a smaller, narrower build: narrow shoulders and hips, not a lot of muscle tone.

Her relationship to a male character would be relative based on his scale and build, too.

TheSkaldofNvrwinter In reply to AdorkaStock [2014-01-23 22:02:58 +0000 UTC]

Then you aren't in the short or petite category, what I hear lol...just outside of it hee. Most of the few women I've dated----have been 5'4" or under.

I'm going to post really soon some sketches of female figures...just as soon as I make them lol. I don't know if I'll do them on paper and post a photo or do t hem on my tablet.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdorkaStock In reply to TheSkaldofNvrwinter [2014-01-23 22:32:33 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't consider myself petite anymore. My hips and butt are kinda huge. xD

Best of luck with the sketches!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSkaldofNvrwinter In reply to AdorkaStock [2014-01-24 02:44:21 +0000 UTC]

yes...why? tear into me, if you need to, because this won't work if I don't know what I'm doing

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdorkaStock In reply to TheSkaldofNvrwinter [2014-01-25 16:46:48 +0000 UTC]

Well, as I said, petite kind of implies a small frame to me. So narrower shoulders and less curvy thighs is what I would think of for a character that is 'petite.' It basically means 'dainty' and the woman in those sketches to me looks quite formidable. xD
