The thing is, the Intrepid can't actually have this registry number. The number seen in court martial that was used for this was actually NCC-1831, misread due to a poor quality film print. The same happened with the Excalibur: 1664 is actually 1864, Reliant's registry number, again proving why these registry numbers are flawed. Still, we have Enterprise to blame for them being adopted as canon.
