Weirdly enough, this concept also helped a lot when it came to inspiration for Game Boy coloring. From darkest to brightest, here's the nice way to visually "improve" playing. If you're getting better at gaming, you can "rise in levels" by changing the palettes accordingly - from the lowest position on the totem pole to the highest.

Every palette of this collection sports RGB and HEX colors for easy replication. If you have BGB or Gambatte as your emulators of choice, you can add this stuff easily.
