Soo I wanted to do some short stores about ellen because let's be honest. Alma is and I quote SaandStoorm on this "is a soft little cinnamon roll" so obviously she had to get this away by how ellen raised her. and I really just wanted to draw ellen. oops. but hey look it's also a redraw of this!I'm planning on doing more short stories like this because it was actually a lot of fun to do!

-----------------------------------------------
Ellen couldn't help but grin looking down at the small pink red-headed bundle in her arms, she and James, her husband, had finally decided on Alma Marie Grey. Alma after James's best friend at the firehouse they worked at. and Marie because well Ellen just really liked the name "are you still admiring her?" James asked setting down his bag by the door of their tiny new york apartment and sliding his around her kissing the side of Ellen's head before lightly kissing Alma's forehead in greeting. "I can't help it shes so perfect, I just love her so much' Ellen said never looking up from her daughters face. "yeah she is pretty perfect i just hope her first sentence isn't "I want a pony" James laughed resting his head on his wife's. little did they know, it was.
----------------------------------
Warring: this story mentions the events of 9/11 it's only briefly but it is still there.
It had been 4 years since James had died, he was rescuing people from the towers after they were hit he had ended up giving his oxygen mask to a civilian who was having trouble breathing, he later passed from smoke inhalation at the hospital, it had also been 4 months since ellen had decided to pack everything up and move to a small farm in North Carolina and open up a stable.
Currently ellen was leading alma on charlie, her ex-eventing gelding who was passed for light riding after a leg injury, he was good for alma to learn how to ride on, solid sound mind especially since she had gone quiet and hadn't been as talkative since James's had passed, really only answering questions or saying that she was hungry,
Looking back her heart soared seeing a smile on her daughters face for the first time in what felt like years, she almost started crying tears of joy when she saw her daughters mouth open and close a few times before a tiny small voice that was like music to her ears asked "momma can I have a pony?" looking at her head tilted those green eyes, her fathers eyes, looking back at her round and inquisitive, just like her father, "of course baby you can have a pony you can have all the ponies you want even 100 ponies" ellen said feeling her eyes water before laughing at alma's response "one good I don't have a lot of cookies because i have to give charlie some too"

"Mama I'm ready for my lesson with malibu!" Alma shouted running and hugging her mother's legs while she looked up at her grinning, true to her word ellen had gotten her a 5-year-old American paint pony, 3 years younger than alma, taking a good look at alma, Ellen couldn't help but hug her daughter she was almost swimming in her pants that she just had to have because they look like the ones she saw her mom wear even if they were a size or two too big on her, her hair pulled into a very messy lopsided ponytail, spinning her around ellen quickly fixed her hair before picking her 8-year-old up and kissing her face while they headed to the pasture to fetch malibu who would eventually meet them at the gate, knowing her little girl would have cookies for her.

"I'm gonna be sick, I can't do this everyone looks so good and fancy and their horses are so calm and wings is just a giant ball of energy, what if he knocks down every rail on the course or-" alma said starting to panic Ellen immediately hurrying over to her daughter and holding her face between her hands "Alma Marie Grey you and I both know that Wings is ready for this show you have practiced every day since you found out about it. besides any other show closer to home and you know I would let you leave but we drove all the way to Texas because you really wanted this show. so you are going to take a deep breath and calm down, get on wings and go out there and show everyone that Alma Grey is a force to be reckoned with in the show ring." she said kissing her daughters forehead before pulling her into a hug "just like you mom?" alma said giving her mother a tight hug back "yes my little almond just like me" It was that moment that ellen knew that alma was going to be okay. she had the entirety of shadow hill behind her and she is just like her father. strong and brave, watching her lead wings, the horse she was dead set on training her self over the jumps she knew alma could handle anything that came hurtling her way.
