Description Perseverance was quite inactive over the festive period. Not much data was downloaded.
This quiet period is now over. The first drive (Sol 1018) took the rover 181.05 meters to the west; no odometry data is yet available for the second drive (Sol 1019).

However, based on the available images, Perseverance seems to have backtracked some distance and then performed an odd circular multi-turn.
The reason for this could (or should) be of a scientific nature. It is conceivable that the rover team has reached a potentially interesting area - and now wants to investigate it - that was discovered during the previous drive (Sol 1018) or by Ingenuity
