Description Ingenuity successfully completed its 39th flight on Mars.

Ingenuity flew to the northeast and imaged (at the beginning of the GIF) a section of the "bacon strip" to test the new flight software before returning to the mega-ripples where its flight began.

The last frames used for this GIF show the helicopter just before landing - again in the area of the mega-ripples.

Ripples are wave patterns in the sand, so-called "sand ripples" (the English word "ripple" means something like "small wave").

The GIF is based on a total of 13 frames (6 frames for the first part of the GIF and 7 frames for the second part of the GIF) taken by the navigation camera on January 11, 2023 (Sol 673 of the Perseverance mission) in a period of 3 seconds as well as 11 seconds.

As of January 12, 2023, the flight log (see: mars.nasa.gov/technology/helic… ) has not yet been updated, but Ingenuity was expected to reach 33 ft (10 meters) and fly about 456 ft (139 meters) northeast for approximately 75 seconds (see: twitter.com/NASAJPL/status/161… ).
