Description Background
This was intended to be my personal homepage quite a ways back (end of 2000) - the concept was to have a laserbeam that draws an "S" (standing for Syrkos) that is at the heart of the page, with a number of abstract icons that represent the different sections. I never finished it, as it took way too much time to build. It was a nice project, however - it just doesn't stand the comparison with modern flash applications (it's ripe for a Flash museum!).

Technique
I am actually one of the few to have worked with Flash v1.0, and even though it was already revolutionary, it was a pain to work with. IMO even MX still is, but then a lot of tools have been added to make a Flasher's life easier than in 2000. I started the website with Flash 2, and continued it with Flash 3. While drawing lines is easy now with fancy libraries and drawing functions, at the time you still had to do things the hard way: the opening sequence with the lines being drawn by the laser beam is done entirely by hand... The line that is drawn actually consists of very small individual lines that are faded in individually at the right time. I can't remember how much time I spent on that, and I think it's best if I don't

I have also drawn about 20 icons like the ones that can be seen in the main navigation screen - I think I will try to import them into Illustrator and make the entire collection available here sometime...

Update 05.04.2006
Moved to scraps, I think it has a better place here - I don't feel it is good enough for a deviation, but it is definitely something I want to be able to show anyway. I guess scrapping it is adequate...
