Description
A Clockwork Lily from the Gas Swamps of the Lakshmi Planum, Venus(Mechanica Lilium)
Growing wild in the gas swamps of the great Lakshmi Planum on the planet Venus, the clockwork lilies have grown hardy to suit their harsh native habitat, having leathery petals and brass stems to cope with the eternal Venusian summer.
Due to the still air in the burning gas swamps, the lilies have developed a clockwork-like method to fling pollen into the thick atmosphere. Interestingly enough, the flowers taste of peppermint and are quite, quite deadly.
The flowers are made of leather, formed whilst wet and baked on a low heat in the oven to maintain their shape. They are set on brass rods and wound up a stem which is made of brass tubing. The leaves have a central brass vein and are formed of copper tape and the plant itself is set onto a wooden plinth with a studded leather upper.
This picture was taken when the flower was on display at The Asylum steampunk convivial in Lincoln UK, 2011.
